.... you do realize. Smith was going to get cut anyways and he could have probably brought him in for 2-3 instead of picking up his 5 and giving away Worley?

If Grant got a huge deal Smith would have too. WRs are getting huge money (see Russell Shepard). We can always cut Smith without any repercussion anyway.

We needed a change at DB. We couldn’t go into the season without upgrading that group.

Have you seen the insane contracts some of these FA WRs are getting? I think it's a stretch to say we could've gotten Smith for $2-3M. I think we were more than happy to give Worley away at this point. This was likely a trade between two teams of players that were likely on the chopping block anyway had a trade not emerged.

Worley was a project. How many years did it take JNO to come into his prime. I unlike most people do not like the move of letting him go. But that’s just me. He learned a lot last year.

Torrey Smith is 28, and hasn’t had a good season in 3 years. He would have gone for the lower payday if he really wanted to come here.

As this thread is about, football first mentality. Perhaps he will have a breakout year. As I’ve said until September this is all just hypotheticals.

And if we kept Worley, we’d have enough money to spare The Honey Badger couldn’t say no. He’d come here. We could have got a vet min WR to help coach our young guys.

And the Honey Badger would have raised the bar for our secondary and made everyone play and look better.

See the difference now?

Worley just plain sucks. So many people want to go back to Norman as a comparison, but Norman spent his early years in Rivera's doghouse because of his desire to freelance on the field and not play within the system. It wasn't a talent/skill issue with Norman, it was simply learning that he had to play within the system in the NFL. This wasn't Coastal Carolina anymore. Worley didn't look like he'd learned much of anything to me last year. He still looked really bad. He's a solid tackler, but he's just too stiff and slow to cover NFL WRs. I would've been interested in giving him a look at safety but for whatever reason we didn't consider that to be an option. His poor reaction to his benching last season and refusal to take any ownership for his poor play likely all but sealed his departure this offseason.

Smith fills a specific niche in our WR corps. We needed a deep threat. He's a deep threat. I don't think he's going to be some superstar for us, but this trade is what it is. It's two teams swapping players that were likely getting cut anyway. The Eagles needed rid of Smith's salary because he underperformed and didn't fit their system and the Panthers needed a deep threat WR and were willing to cut ties with Worley likely because they were ready to give up on him anyway.

With the current contracts going to receivers, he could’ve got Smith for 2 or 3 million?

Did he sign somewhere else? Did I miss something? Was or entire off season built around signing an exspensive 5’9 dB?

That’s some wishful thinking. Can’t put all of your eggs in one basket.

If he doesn’t sign here we’d be stuck with Worley, a rookie safety, and a Jason Avant clone at WR.

Sorry looks like he is going to be a seahawk. Sorry u miss out on Graham, NOT!!!! Lmao

Why does it look like he's gonna be a Seahawk? I'm not sorry we missed out on Graham either at $10 mil a year.

I actually wouldn't be too bothered about you guys getting him. I think he's a headache

I don't know that he's a headache as much as just a dirty prick lol. Never heard of him being locker room trouble.

Danny Amendola is going to make 6 million per. 2 or 3? Not a chance.

I would have preferred to give him the offseason to think about it, learn from it, grow and practice. I think Worley has the talent, and solid tackling is key to Ron’s scheme. We have always gone for solid tackling.

I take the comparison because some players can’t be expected to jump right in and be perfect. For what ever reason. If he didn’t have raw talent DG wouldn’t have picked him. Plain and Simple.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think Worley had the talent. He's slow, stiff, and doesn't have good instincts or ball skills. I wouldn't be surprised if his career is just about over.

Which we do, I got no qualms we both have our own opinion. And I’m glad we were able to have a civil conversation.

Lets see if he makes it through Philly Camp, and revisit.
