Yeah, that's a stopgap. Any 35 year old player is a stopgap. His contract is structured in a way that they could've cut him this year and saved nearly $7M in cap space. They can cut him following this season and save nearly $10M with under $2M in dead money.

he’s a player that could retire at any moment and if he decided to hang it up this year, or he fell off a cliff, you’re looking at almost 6 million in dead money

If Matt Kalil had actually turned into a stud for us, you would be here using that to shout down anyone that dared say anything negative about DG.

Instead it was all actually Jerry Richardson's idea apparently. Nevermind the fact that Gettleman just threw 60 million at a 30 year old left tackle. Maybe JR was there somewhere whispering in his ear?

What that shows me is that Solder is less bad, but nowhere near $15M / Year or whatever insane contract he got.

Per Game (started) Stats:
Solder = 0.37 Sacks
M. Kalil = 0.48 Sacks

Solder = 0.35 Penalties
M. Kalil = 0.39 Penalties

Solder = 3 Penalty Yards
M. Kalil = 3.48 Penalty Yards

For Comparison (Whitworth / Game Stats):
0.26 Sacks
0.42 Penalties
3.2 Penalty Yards
