Cards really didnt have a choice they dont have a young guy they can start and the other free agents are either coming off injuries or limited starting roles

Seahawks could trade Russell before he breaks the bank on his 3rd deal.  Candidates would have been Lions (before the extension), Packers, Panthers, Eagles (in a few years), etc....

 

You know, depending on how much the QB wanted I could understand why teams would consider making such a move.

Imagine if you had a situation like the Packers had during the Favre/Rodger years. They knew they had a backup as good (or better) than the guy starting. The Packers didn't miss a beat when Favre left except for the 1st season. If the backup was in the middle of a rookie contract or on a reasonable deal, I don't see how you wouldn't at least contemplate making such a move. If you could free up a ton of cap space and/or acquire some high draft choices with the trade it could actually make the team better.

It all hinges on the guy you have waiting in the wings. If he balls out, you'll look like a genius. If he flames out, you'll probably be run out of town.
