You don't FUGGIN cut Ryan FUGGIN Kalil

No, I looked at the numbers the other day. They were actually a little higher in the Kalil games.

Just crunched them including the playoff game. 46ypg rushing for Cam with Larsen, 47ypg with Kalil.

Interesting.

I'm not gonna be all that upset if we cut him. It happens. My concern at the end of last season and entering this season is once again our running game. That concern is even larger now. We've already lost Norwell. Losing Kalil too for however anyone here may feel about him, is another negative that could hamper those issues even further. Fans here seem to be fairly unconcerned about the run game, but if people really think we can just plug in any RB we find off the street behind a potentially mediocre OL, well, they're in for a rude awakening. When you pair this with the WR position concerns, I don't know how people are quite so nonchalant.

Also a fair point. I just think he deserves one last shake at things. If his contract was stopping us from some big move or addition I'd be on board with cutting him.

Deserve has nothing to do with it.  He was paid handsomely for his service while here so he's owed nothing.  This is not a charity or retirement home for old team favorites to hang around beyond their expiration dates.  Time to move on.

But JR and Hurney are hell bent on keeping the feels high because "Mister" can't handle his favorites being treated less than royalty.

This. So much this. If he wants to take a substantial pay cut to stay on the roster, then hell yeah! Welcome back! But keeping him at a nearly $10M cap hit honestly shouldn't even be considered as an option.

I know where everyone got "$10M" cap savings from but that's not true.  If Ryan is released or traded before the 16th, the cap savings would be $7,125,000. After the 16th, the savings would be $5,625,000; roster bonus of $1500.00 is effective on the 16th. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/ryan-kalil-1229/ That's almost half what you're thinking the savings are. It's not out of line with other highly rated centers.

I remember a lot more pressure up the inside with Larsen which is a Cam killer. He just doesn't pass the eye test, stats be damned. We know how well Ryan plays without a Norwell at left guard; we have no idea how Larsen will do. For $5.6M I don't want to find out.

The problem you are missing is that he's no longer a highly rated center.   He's all reputation and no benefit in relation to his cost.  You don't pay that kind of cash for moral support.  It's time to cut bait and let Larsen hold the spot until another pro bowl center is drafted.

Who is saying $10M in cap savings?

I counted 12 mentions of $10M. They didn't all say "savings" but the implication was there that that's the amount we would be saving if we released Ryan. You alone mentioned it in 3 different posts. I'm not judging the posts in any way, I simply counted posts that used that figure. So don't jump on me for reading the posts the same as everyone else is.

I never once mentioned $10M in savings because it isn't accurate. It IS accurate that he has a nearly $10M cap hit. You're reading too much into it and imagining that's what the poster was implying.
