I'm still waiting for anyone to point out any offensive statistic that points to our offense being significantly better with Ryan Kalil last year vs. without him. Obviously stats don't tell the whole story, but anytime you're trying to justify a nearly $10M cap hit for an aging, injury prone player you'd hope to at least be able to point to something statistically that shows we're significantly better with him vs. without him.

I'll have to second that Hurney makes decisions like if we cut Ryan Matt may not perform well please stop the madness. We need Cap flexibility and his often injured azz has the money we need. Where are the facts stating his play improves us dramatically from Larsens production.

The coaching staff knows every snap he played, what blocks he called out, what the defense actually did, and why the play succeeded or failed.  They also know the same for Larson.

They will react accordingly, and regardless of the decision the Huddle will be critical of it.

It's a GREAT draft to need a guard or center...  We would be smart to come away with 2 (early) picks that are interchangeable at both positions...  One to start at G this year (Price?), and another to step into the OL rotation next year after Kalil retires...

Let Kalil retire, THEN cut Matt and look to draft or sign your starting LT next offseason (or hope that Williams or Moton improve enough to slide into that role)...

Cutting Kalil doesn't make you better, and at this point ejecting his salary isn't going to be enough to make a significant splash with...  Trust in your player, trust in your coaches and trust in your GM (if you can), and expect we get his replacement on the roster this draft...

Were you all paying attention last year? Anytime Ryan Kalil did not play it was like the Panthers didn't even have a left tackle in the game. Kalil is what made Matt Kalil look almost capable. Cut Ryan Kalil and you better be ready to cut Matt Kalil too because without his brother he is a huge liability.

But that was the problem...”anytime” was most of the time.

Here's the stats. Kalil vs. Larsen...

Passing yards per game: 167 with Kalil, 206 with Larsen

Rushing yards per game: 128 with Kalil, 131 with Larsen

Total offensive yards per game:  303 with Kalil, 336 with Larsen

Points per game: 20ppg with Kalil, 24.3ppg with Larsen

1st downs per game: 20 with Kalil, 20 with Larsen

Sacks per game: 2 with Kalil, 2.3 with Larsen (though it's worth noting that the two worst sack games with Larsen were his 1st two starts and we averaged 1.6 per game in his final 8 starts)

Win/Loss record: 4-2 with Kalil, 7-3 with Larsen

Not only are we not significantly better with Kalil, we're actually significantly WORSE.

Thank God the team doesn't agree with you.

What you're lost if you think ten mill for a player tho could wake up with that neck and miss ten games but it's ok his brother feels good when he plays he brings us stability even tho we can't count you to be available fourth highest cap hit for centers while Larsen is making 630k. It happens back loaded contracts are designed for teams to get out of high hits late in the players contract the Not For Long league for a reason pay cut is the only option.

Kalil barely played in some of those 6 games and you didn’t include the playoff game.

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
