Sabates hasn't joined anyone.  He's just talking about it.

If he does join anyone, it'll likely be Navarro since they already have a business relationship.

yeah i edited i wish you would slow down so that i can self correct and don't have to be embarrassed

I kinda doubt they actually have that info.  The bids are sealed.  If one owner's bid were public knowledge it would be an innate advantage to others. Info we had previously on this also indicated there'd be more than one round.

They may be putting two and two together but I think it's more likely they're tooting their own horn here than any actual knowledge. "Page Six" isn't exactly the best source for NFL news anyway.

No doubt.  You can't take anything you hear now as gospel.  However, I also don't doubt that there are people "hearing" things that are factual...there are always leaks.  Just like we've heard about a handful of groups, there's still a lot we don't know about each group and if there are more serious bidders behind the scenes.

But I do find it interesting that the initial bids were due on Monday.  So now everyone that wants in, is in or has to wait until the next team sale.  And while there likely will be further rounds, if one bidder offered an amount that effectively makes the other bidders fold, then they might not need another round (although there would certainly still be some negotiations between JR and the top bidder before anything is officially accepted).  Either way, I'm sure the process will start moving much faster since the parameters have been established and some bidders will be weeded out.

The Observer's business reporter indicated March was the "action month" and theorized that the sale could be done by month's end. Charlotte Business Journal seemed to back off on that a little bit though.  They still think it'll be ready by the May owner's meetings, but also think the process could play out longer with bids, counterbids, etc.

There are two theories out there. One: Richardson may get his "bidding war" after all. Two: The fact that other, more established teams could be coming available soon may cool interest on the Panthers.

Unknown how much of this we'll be able to follow in the news.

Well, we know nothing will be done in time for the March owners meetings, so they have some time to sort everything out for May.  Without knowing the bids, there's no way of knowing how long this may drag out.  But my guess is that with Tepper and Rubin (and Navarro, depending on if he has any partners) both seemingly ready and able to bid 2 Billion plus, most other bidders will likely drop out.

How badly the final groups want the team will determine whether or not we get a bidding war.  It sounds like Rubin really wants to be an owner.  And, I wouldn't be shocked if he wants to step in and run the team as a full-time owner.  But I feel Tepper, on the other hand, is less likely to step away from his business and would probably delegate the running of the team, so may not be as willing to get in a bidding war.  I guess time will tell.

All really just theory and supposition at this point.

We know Tepper is on the "wait list" for full ownership. His favorite team is the Steelers but obviously he's never gonna own them.

Would one of the other future teams be more attractive than the Panthers?  Could that also be the case for other interests?

Honestly, the only guy that I'd see as absolutely wanting only the Panthers is Navarro because he's local (relatively speaking). But he'd have to be vetted where Tepper wouldn't. Rubin would too and he'd have to divest his other sports teams.

Times like this I'm kind of glad I'm not a lawyer.

Gonna repeat, part of diddy's pitch is wanting to sign Kaepernick and compete with a league MVP to start, and yes there will be a circus around all of this like The Golden Calf of Bristol's circus with fans ALWAYS calling for squidward to start.  Between that idiocy and butchering our name, I want no part of Diddy anywhere near the team.  I enjoy watching football, not a sideshow.

Diddy would be a minority owner and won't have any say whatsoever in what players are on the team.

I am not sure how Steph Curry, who still plays basketball, has enough money to be a minority owner. Does he make that much playing basketball?

Not sure if my math is Correct, but isn't 10% of 2 Billion like... 200 Million? Isn't that what is needed to be a minority owner?

Currently the Panthers have Richardson at 48% and 14 minority owners. 52//14 = 3.71% if they all owned equal amounts.

Maybe the ownership requirements have changed?

Depends on the group. If they want him as wall candy they could offer him 1% which Curry could write. I wonder if the NFL wants even a 1% owner as an owner if he is currently playing and basically representing another league.  I don’t know why a group gets suddenly linked to Carolina by slapping Curry as an owner but it’s really dumb to me. If someone invests 2.5b on a Charlotte based business I’d say he’s pretty tied to the region himself. Curry might be a nice option if he wasn’t so tied to the west coast right now.

how often have you seen a minority owner ?? .....he'll have nothing to do with anything

I tend to worry about whats on the field more than whats in the skybox
