I caution against getting your hopes up for a top tier free agent WR. Salaries look to be well out of reach of anything the Panthers can offer without mortgaging the future.

Any info on R Kalil's status? Seems to me there are only 2 options: release him or a straight pay-cut. Because he's been a charity case for us the last 2 years and we could fill multiple holes with the savings.

Pin this at the top of the thread.

People need to realize that there's no need for Robinson or any other highly sought after wr to take less to play here. EVERYONE cashes out on their first contract, everyone.

Not sure where Watkins will go but if it's a bidding war Arob wants  he'll get it no problem from 49ers/Bears/Browns. With my money being on 49ers.

Kalil knows this, hence him coming out and saying he's retiring. It's his way of assuring himself to not be cut,  because he knows how the FO does business like everyone's family.

Any other competitive franchise that needed the cap would've thanked him for his services and moved along since he can't stay healthy.

There's no way we are going to outbid the Bears or 49ers, sadly.

Agree.  AR is getting too much chat and will be overpaid.  Seriously, someone like Richardson is not the end of the world.  Cam forced the ball to benji when he was here--which is why we were better without him.  Would the addition of Robinson recreate that problem?

Maybe a new TE and a decent veteran WR is the way to go.  Let's not forget--Samuel and CMC are only going to get better.

I wouldnt Cut Kalil, I would restructure his contract to, you play X amount of games, you get paid x. We need him to teach his replacement.

The NFL Player's Union will not allow this kind of a contract...See the Richard Sherman debate in SF.

If you could have gone without that last line...

I say we mortgage the future. Our window to win is right now.

Oh hell, no.

A pretty solid number of teams that mortgage the future wind up not winning, so you basically screw yourself for 3 to 5 seasons down the road for nothing.

I haven't taken a deep dive in the Eagles moves last year, but they clearly put together a team needed to win. Not sure how you bring in Ajayi and Alshon without doing some damage to your cap in future years.

Alshon market wasn't big, ALWAYS injured and is one failed test from missing 10 games to a entire year for PEDs. He came with some risks,  hell it came to light that he played most of the year with a torn rotator cuff, which falls in line with the him always being injured stigma.

And Ajayi is playing on a 4th round rookie contract with two more seasons to go. In other words he's on a very team friendly deal...

Bringing in a guy like Ajayi is much easier when the general manager who trades him to you makes a really stupid decision.

Think Greg Olsen trade. This was a similar deal.

Call me crazy but maybe Smith's contract and status was a base line, disposal floor.  We went out and got that as insurance as we go after a bigger name.  If let's say Robinson agrees to terms, we ditch Smith and get 5 mil with no dead cap impact.  That's feasible right?

No, Smith is a valuable piece. Look at Barnwell's article in ESPN, Smith got  open deep several times last year, Wentz and Foles couldn't get the ball to him, won't be a problem for Cam.

pls be a smokescreen & our real target be sammy watkins.

Why? He's going to be a first day signing, be wildly overpaid and he's been hurt a lot in his career. Sure, if you can get him for a reasonable price, but that ain't happenin'.
