Want to sign a player like Robinson?  Here is how you do it:

1. Cut R. Kalil ($7m).  Averages 7 games a year for past 2 years.

2. Cut Sheperd already ($2m). 

3.  Restructure Torrey Smith's contract ($2m for next year).  Smith is set to make $5m per season but nothing is guaranteed.  Guarantee $6m on a three-year deal for $11m. 

4. Take $2m from the cap. 

That is $13m per year, making Robinson a top 10 WR on the pay scale.

We still keep most of the cap.

Now, Sign a veteran LG like  Pugh at $7m to play LG.  Promote Tyler Larsen to Center.

That’s fair, if they were smart they would. I have a bad feeling he isn’t coming back and that’s bs on his part IMO, but it’s the nature of the game.

Didn't he also report that the Panthers were ready to hire a new GM last month?

No clue how this would be possible cap wise. Hurney would have to backload the fug out of that deal , and even then it still wouldn't be competitive with the 49ers if they really wanted Robinson. The only way he would play here is if he willingly  took much less money to give himself the best chance at a SB. Which is don't make since at his age either.

I still think we have a shot at a top WR, plus Norman/DRC and a few other pieces, but honestly, It's going to take a guy that just likes our region/franchise/ability to compete in contrast with the non-competitive teams with cap space...  I think those factors work in our favor with Watkins.

Otherwise, if you were a player and everything else but the money is equal, why would you want a backloaded deal in a league of unguaranteed contracts when you can get tons if bonus money up front?  So again, a guy is going to have to want to be a part of our organization more than he wants immediate stacks of cash.  I also think there will be several restructures done if they haven't been completed already to clear up some more space.

Technically we can offer him 13mil a year right now. Reality we have to build a team, so that 13mil we can offer right now, would not allow us to build a team and sign our FA's.

Which is why we need to get creative and cut Kalil and Smith. We can get Robinson if we really wanted him. Point blank!

How much does their QB make? And then add their 2nd string QBs contract. Then compare that sum to the average of all starting QBs. Double that for the Rams.

Yeah, La Confora is one of the reporters I don't trust when it comes to dropping nuggets or news. Take anything he says with a grain of salt.
