Do not want....

Internet billionaire Michael Rubin is putting together an audacious bid to buy the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, and has landed an incredibly powerful ally — the co-founder of Chinese web giant Alibaba Joseph Tsai, sources exclusively tell Page Six.

Sources say Rubin, who owns $4.5 billion online sportswear retailer Fanatics, is set on buying the Panthers, which was put up for sale in December after the team’s owner Jerry Richardson was accused of workplace misconduct.

Rubin — a close friend of Patriots owner Bob Kraft and many pro-athletes — is set to submit a bid for the Panthers, we’re told, and Tsai is on board to join an impressive ownership consortium, which they hope could yet include sports figures such as Steph Curry and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. Tsai is already a 49 percent owner of the Brooklyn Nets.

If he was on his own, fine-  I don't want non domestic ownership who is looking at the balance sheet alone...  nor do I want a laundry list of celebs who "own" part of the team- let Diddy buy out Nelly's stake in the Hornets.

I’m definitely for it now.

Steph is the Carolina connection, so that’s a check. He’s also a yuuuuge fan.

Rubin and Alibaba with the deep pockets. Check

Diddy will be a piece in keeping us relevant always. Of course winning does that more than anything, but with all those pieces meshed together, it could create a team that players want to be involved with and bring in many many more fans.

Slapping Steph as a minority owner doesn’t just automatically keep the team in Carolina.

Deep pockets are irrelevant since all bidders have deep pockets. Once purchased the richness level of the owner is pretty irrelevant on the field.

Diddy will never be approved as a minority or majority owner. His influence would be more divicive than anything.

A chinese billionare, a sports merch guy, a west coast nba star and a divisive rapper? Lol if you think JR or other ownerswould be open to this group.... unless they want the panthers to fail.

Also having a guy like Rubin would make FA interesting.  A lot of good relationships with players already, could either mean guys want to flock here to play for him...or he plays the Richardson role wanting contracts given out to his favorites and hurts us.  I think it would be the former, for the most part.

Worked for the 76er's didn't it? (lol)

Ask Lebron this summer...hope you weren't really trying to compare the two examples.

They aren’t comparable but having a popular owner in the NFL isn’t the same as other sports. In the NFL having a popular GM or coach is far more important. I really don’t see having a (presumably) popular owner as a draw what so ever for any potential free agent. The organization as a whole needs to be strong. It won’t be popular thing to say but JR was a popular owner to his players and headed a strong organization. Until....

I have said it before and will say will say it again. The best thing for us as fans is to have the strongest owner/ownership group from a business perspective. With great leadership and strong appointments at key positions this organization will thrive and Charlotte will never be without a team. If we get stuck with a bunch of celebrities and popular characters it may be fun for a year or two but the organization will decline if not managed well.  I don’t want a circus for ownership.
