New #DeepThreat Torrey Smith With Only 6 Catches Past 15 Yards In 2017

Cams going to be so glad he has someone who can actually get open down the field, dont be surprised if him and T.Smith have a ball this season . Its also fortunate Cam is healthy this offseason, they'll have a decent chunk of time to get on the same page before game 1.

I'm actually more worried about Byrd and Samuel. No idea when either of them will be healthy enough to start practicing before the season starts.

First of all, I just want to get this out of the way and say this isn’t like something that’ll kill us. Yes, it’s only 5 million and it’s very easy to cut him anyways and get that 5 million back and just use Smith as an insurance policy (which we should).

However, this is by no means addressing the WR position. We need someone better, and I hope we get that guy. Torrey Smith is not the answer no matter how you look at it, and is not the veteran or guy we need.

And of course, our highest paid WR is one of the worst in the NFL according to NFL1000, landing himself in the bottom 10 of the list.

99. Torrey Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

Route Running: 11/30
Hands: 9/25
YAC: 12/20
Blocking: 7/15
Position Value: 8/10
Overall Grade: 47/100

While Alshon Jeffery's signing was a major hit in Philadelphia, Smith's was a flop. He played a ton but accumulated 430 yards and two touchdowns. The 28-year-old, who was known for his ability to make downfield plays throughout his career, caught six passes that went further than 15 yards this season. Smith struggled with drops, and his blocking in the run game was pitiful at times. He might be one-and-done with the Eagles.

Don’t try and kid that we got our WR to help Cam. We can do better than this.

This isn't the eagles offense, don't forget what Ted Ginn was able to accomplish and still is accomplishing with the right team. The Eagles offense is West Coast, the dude just didnt fit right. Baltimore's offense was run heavy.

What's your point?

An unproven rookie only has to surpass a gaudy statline of 200 yards and 1 touchdown to be considerably better than Russell Shepard, and at a fraction of the cost.

If you're happy settling for barely improving the position we are going to be right here next offseason again saying that it's NOW finally time to get Cam the help he deserves

Let's see what Hurney does, Free Agency hasn't started yet. But if our big additions at WR end up being Torrey Smith and a rookie in a weak WR class we're in trouble.

They also spread it around a lot.  Wentz had 9 passes of 40 plus yards this year total, and they were spread out among all the receivers and the te.  Torrey relatively low numbers seem to be more about how good the Eagles receiving corps is and less about any drop off from Smith.  Agholor especially seemed to improve significantly, nearly doubling his reception total and increasing his ypc.
