This is so dumb. There is reason for outrage because they are actually bad moves. We need cap space and in a matter of one week Hurney just committed $9.5 dollars to gano and Torrey smith.

I mean, Gettleman has us paying close to 4 million a year for Russel Shepard.  I kinda think that Smith is quite an upgrade, for only an extra million.

DG just gave up 2 draft picks and 10 million in cap space for a struggling LB.

We do a basic player swap and upgrade the offense and people here start whining about "mortgaging the future".

You dudes are still wired with that cheapskate Gettleman mindset, and even Gettleman himself isn't following that mindset he preached anymore. Nut up and buckle in.

I wanted a proven speed threat, and we got one. Worley wasn't a substantial loss at all, in fact we can upgrade fairly easily.

Agreed.  Plus, Gunter outplayed Worley toward the end of last season.  Hell Gunter had a PFF grade of 78.8 (average).

So the Huddle whines when we let Ginn go.  And the huddle gripes that Worley is terrible and we must replace him.  So we go out and trade for another Ginn (who the Huddle loves) while getting rid of Worley (who the Huddle hates)...and the Huddle reacts by blaming Hurney for picking up a loser and getting rid of all pro Worley.

Makes sense.

Literally I think my last post before this was defending worley but whatever, gotta stay with the narrative to blame the huddle for this GM's utter incompetence.

Smith makes 5 mill and caught 36 ball for 430 yards..... Yet everyone will be fine with Sammy Watkins making 11 mill... bringing his 39 catches for 593....

OK

They had the same amount of targets but Sammy had 8 Tds Smith had 2 and People see Smith as a guy who has reached his peak and passed his prime while Watkins hasn't managed to hit those marks yet

i think most Panthers fans wanted Watkins at a reasonable deal also

OK

THANK YOU!!  Philly has weapons all over the board.  Paying $5M for a starting WR is not a bad move, and in today's salary cap world, that for even a 3rd or 4th option isn't insane.  And there are going to be some insane contracts in the next few days.

The national media will harp on the fact the Eagles were going to cut Smith anyway, but so were we with Worley, so what does it matter

Hurney cut a kicker who looked like garbage in camp and the one he kept turned out to be the best kicker in the league... and people are still complaining about that.

Look, when he makes a stupid decision (and there is reason to believe he will make many), critique him. This isn't it. Cutting ties with a garbage cornerback for a receiver who is a vertical threat (which we need) is not a bad move.

Panthers acquire WR Torrey Smith from Eagles for CB Daryl Worley
If I were an NFL general manager, I'd be terrified to make any sort of deal with Howie Roseman. The man is a wizard and somehow finds a way to win every trade. He just robbed the Seahawks, so did he do the same thing to Carolina?

Torrey Smith is the bigger name in the trade, but that doesn't mean the Panthers are the winners. Smith was great for the Ravens during their Super Bowl run in 2013, catching 65 passes for 1,128 yards. However, Smith hasn't topped 770 yards in a season since, and at 29, time is running out for him to rebound. Smith wasn't very productive this past season, hauling in 36 balls for 430 yards and two touchdowns. He made some clutch plays, but also was responsible for countless drops. Owed $5 million in 2018, Smith had to be let go, as the Eagles are over the salary cap. The fact that Philadelphia got anything for him is definitely a bonus.

The Eagles won this trade. They dealt an aging, pedestrian player for a young cornerback with promise, all while saving $4 million or so in cap space. Worley, a 2016 third-round pick, had a semi-decent rookie year, but struggled in 2017. However, Worley has a chance to play better in Philadelphia because the Eagles, unlike the Panthers, have a great pass rush, so he won't be exposed as much. Plus, Worley is just 23, so he has plenty of room for growth.

Grade for Panthers - C+
Grade for Eagles - A-
