Probably because we are now out of the running for a big name WR and are again giving Cam garbage players to work with on offense.

Nothing is going to change until new ownership takes over.  This coming season is going to be one of the biggest jokes in this teams historry.  I think it’s funny as hell Rivera called this an “all in” season.   We have less talent than every other team in our division and Hurney is doing little to nothing to improve that.

Disagree...As of this moment without taking the draft into account (and assuming Shepard is cut)

Greg Olsen - good for 1000 yards when healthy

CMC - probably good for at least 70-90 catches next year

Funchess - should get more targets this year with KB gone for the full year

Smith - even if he only gets 50 catches for 600 yards, still an improvement

Samuel - Unknown but great potential

Byrd - See Samuel

Just those 6 show that there is not garbage surrounding Cam. You can call it homerism if you want, but blind negativity is not any better.

It's not blind negativity.  Smith is trash, has been basically his whole career except 2013.  Funchess will never be a WR1.  CMC is the best WR we have and he is a RB.  Greg is getting old fast and that foot injury is scary.  Samuel is super fast and honestly should get every snap he can next year (that will now be going to Torrey F Smith).  Byrd I really like, too and needs more chances.

If they were going to cut Whorley, this move makes sense.  If they weren't.... well, this was a bad move made by a guy with a history of making bad moves.

It cracks me up how many people poo on worley. Second year player that was a solid tackler and played much better last year compared to his rookie season. And he wasn’t getting paid anywhere close to 5 million per year. I honestly would be okay with the trade if Smith’s cap hit wasn’t so high for what he brings to the table. Maybe we can resurrect his career like Ginn?

Walter football hates the Panthers....see the bolded part to understand the lack of knowledge....Form NFL.com team stats:

Panthers sacks 2017 - 50.0 which is 3rd in the league.

Eagles sacks 2017 - 38.0 which is tied for 15th.

And he gives the Eagles an A- for what he calls a mediocre CB, and the Panthers a C+ for a veteran receiver with speed. What a joke.

Exactly!  Walterfootball guy is a toad...

Worley was probably going to be cut--who knows ?

But he was , a terrible corner.

Lets' give this trade some time to play out.

torrey smith’s struggled to produce, but i guess that’s not on your radar right now

Gettleman's solution last year was to sign Russell Shepard, Charles Johnson, & Kaelin Clay, and then to draft Curtis Samuel who really didn't play exclusively at WR at Ohio State to address our questionable WR situation.  Unequivocally, that was not a success.

Hurney had the guts to trade KB mid-season knowing he would get killed nationally for it, and it did help our offense.

Torrey Smith has at least produced at a high-level, and I think could still be quite good in this offense.  I really think Hurney is making a good effort to improve our receivers while saving money to add elsewhere.

As big a hole as there is for another starting WR, there are more holes in the secondary.

Ginn was trash his whole career except for carolina too, Smith could easily come in and have a revitalized career, that doesn't mean he gets 1400 yards, but that means he could get a good 750 yards or so and be productive. We've seen what he's capable of.

I think the Panthers are counting on Torrey Smith to start and/or at least play a lot of meaningful snaps.  Besides Funchess, we have a massive disappointment in Russell Shepard, "potential" in guys like Samuel & Byrd (who both haven't been able to stay healthy and/or endure NFL level hits), an old stand-by like Bersin, a returner in Kaelin Clay who shouldn't see the field as a regular WR, and our old standby scholarship guy in Bersin.

I am not discounting the potential in Samuel or Byrd, and CMC adds an element as a receiver too, but this is still not a group on paper that is going to keep opposing DC's up at night.

IMO Torrey Smith is the defacto starter across from Funchess unless/until someone else steps up

Agreed, but ironically its probably the best group we have had in a while. And if Samuel catches on, and Byrd can stay healthy, it could be a better than average group.

So, we traded for a guy who is 29, and last year had 36 receptions for 430 yards and 2 TDs? Sure, he ran the 40 in 4.43, so he's fast, but 7+ years after the combine, I don't put much stock in that number.

And we gave up a young CB whom I felt still had upside and was learning. Not sure I like this at all.

Key word who "you" felt had upside. The entire CB group is eligible for an upgrade. They ranked horribly, AGAIN this year.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
