36 of 69 targets. Dude could've had nearly 1k yards if his hands weren't trash.

Depending on which site you use, Smith had somewhere between 4 and 7 dropped passes.  That means the rest of them were considered not catchable.

While 4 is not great and did lead his team, those are not Ted Ginn numbers.

I think it's the method.

Most people expected us to sign someone on the free market, and probably somebody younger. I think only Mike Wallace, of the names that have been discussed, is similar in age.

That, plus I don't really think anyone expected us to trade away a guy on an already young secondary for a guy who was about to be cut. Probably could have had him cheaper.

This, Thank you. But some of the Hurney nut huggers dont get this.

And for the love of god skip on the receivers in the draft. If someone falls to us, sure. but now corner is a need and so is safety if not two safeties. I wonder if Hurney hit up Philly about Darby and didn't like that deal but Philly was like well hey we're over the cap, how bout worley for smith? I have a feeling something else is brewing. This instills my confidence in hurney.

So?  That's like saying a basketball player shoots 35% of the field and you're like "but what about the ones that almost went in?".

Not a good comparison - bc a shooter gets to select where he takes his shot. A receiver doesn’t get to choose when he catches the ball.

better comparison would be if someone goes up for an alley oop and misses the shot after catching the ball. But if it’s an errant pass or defended it doesn’t go against the recipient of the “oop.”

either way - can’t side with you. A bad pass never goes against the receiver.

I wouldn't rule another receiver addition out. If someone is still reachable a la Paul Richardson or even Mike Wallace, i think we pull the trigger. I don't think adding Smith is going to hurt that bad or at all. At most on paper it's still five million. If they restructure for more guaranteed money, then it helps more. Can Shepherd and we right back to 20 mil space.

The trade is decent. Sure Smith was going to be released but that didn't mean he would be cheaper than 5 million or that we would have gotten him. With a mediocre free agent market WRs we're going to get overpaid. If we want to pay less cap hit simply convert 4 million to signing bonus and his cap goes to 3 million and his dead cap.hit would be 2 million if we got rid of him. He is going to be like Cotchery, a vet who helps and works with the young guys. Just what we needed at a decent price if the WR market gets overblown again.

Torrey Smith's guaranteed money (in the 3 year contract) $500K.

So we get rid of Worley and upgrade Sheperd.

Now, at $5m per year with 2 years left but only $500k of the entire deal guaranteed, would Smith take a pay cut on a restructured deal with more guaranteed?  Sure he would.  Offer him a 3-year deal for $3m a year, with $4m guaranteed.  Draft a WR.

Cut Sheperd.

The WR corps:  Funchess, Smith, Samuel, draft pick, Byrd.  With a stud TE added to the roster and CMC's pass catching, that is about as good as it gets.

you forgot Bersin. LoL
