Panthers trade Worley for Torrey Smith

I'm not a huge Hurney guy, but I think this was a good move.

I'm going on the assumption Cam is a better deep passer than Wentz.  Someone can disagree if they want.  But if that is the case, and Smith is a deep thread, Smith will get more opportunities and will put up better numbers here.

We keep our future comp picks, get a veteran speed guy, avoid bidding wars on limited cap space, add a manageable and flexible contract, and fill a really important need in Norv Turner's offense.

Between Olsen, Funchess, Samuel, Smith, and CMC - Cam will have a lot of options.  Re-sign Byrd and add a decent TE2 and RB in the draft, and our offense will be ready to roll.

36 of 69 targets. Dude could've had nearly 1k yards if his hands weren't trash.

# of catches out of total targets doesnt indicate which balls from the incomplete targets were drops or innacurate throws , or passes defended/intercepted.

Walter football hates the Panthers....see the bolded part to understand the lack of knowledge....Form NFL.com team stats:

Panthers sacks 2017 - 50.0 which is 3rd in the league.

Eagles sacks 2017 - 38.0 which is tied for 15th.

And he gives the Eagles an A- for what he calls a mediocre CB, and the Panthers a C+ for a veteran receiver with speed. What a joke.

And our secondary was THAT bad with an elite-level pass rush... yet Hurney is a complete bone-head who doesn't know what's he doing.  Here's the thing, I don't think Hurney is the 2nd Coming, but a lot of fans simply can't accept he knows WAY more about the business of the NFL than they do

We have been discussing a need for a vet experienced WR for months.  When it happens everyone is dumbfounded.

I think it's the method.

Most people expected us to sign someone on the free market, and probably somebody younger. I think only Mike Wallace, of the names that have been discussed, is similar in age.

That, plus I don't really think anyone expected us to trade away a guy on an already young secondary for a guy who was about to be cut. Probably could have had him cheaper.

Torrey Smith's guaranteed money (in the 3 year contract) $500K.

So we get rid of Worley and upgrade Sheperd.

Now, at $5m per year with 2 years left but only $500k of the entire deal guaranteed, would Smith take a pay cut on a restructured deal with more guaranteed?  Sure he would.  Offer him a 3-year deal for $3m a year, with $4m guaranteed.  Draft a WR.

Cut Sheperd.

The WR corps:  Funchess, Smith, Samuel, draft pick, Byrd.  With a stud TE added to the roster and CMC's pass catching, that is about as good as it gets.

Smh.

Go think of another “brilliant” thread to start only to soon realize after just how dumb it is

I am man enough to admit it was bad. Way to sit on a stale story Bro.

How about you answer the question above? Or are you going to be stubborn and ignorant per usual.

At least it wasn't  for draft picks.

I agree with you, Worley has been consistently disappointing so I'm not mad about losing him.

The situation is what bothers me, Smith was going to be released so why not just wait?  And he makes $5 million this year so we added what, $4 million in cap.

Everyone is forgetting that we have Norv Turner drawing up plays now....NOT Shula. Torrey Smith will thrive in this offense.

But, he was going to get cut, why trade? Because we would've lost the bidding war. Sammy Watkins will get a monster deal as a mediocre receiver with 'potential'.

We got rid of a pestering annoyance for a speedster that completely opens up the offense. All for a measly $5 million. Yea, I'll take it.

So?  That's like saying a basketball player shoots 35% of the field and you're like "but what about the ones that almost went in?".
