Panthers trade Worley for Torrey Smith

Yep- you are right.  And objectively speaking DB was/is the bigger need.  Our defense got dragged down big time by an awful secondary last year.  No getting around it.  Coleman looked slow, Worley looked lost (and then bitched about it when he was benched), Adams was inconsistent, and even Bradberry wasn't great.

It's like the fan base knows we need to completely remake the secondary and then complains when our GM works towards that.  We have cap space, but not enough to sign a top-end WR and a top in DB.

We were never in the running for Watkins or Robinson anyway, not sure why folks thought we were. Too many teams with too much $ to offer. I will take the wait-and-see approach because I dont have any other choice. Some guys on here are going to age really fast getting all worked up over Panthers moves.

Nothing is saying we can't have Watkins too. He is probably going to get 15 million a year from someone though and with his injury history that will be a huge risk.

I would be shocked if the Panthers signed a big name free agent WR

Panthers acquired WR Torrey Smith from the Eagles in exchange for CB Daryl Worley.

It's a coup for the Eagles, who were probably going to cut Smith anyway. The 29-year-old was productive early in his career but was mostly a non-factor last season, reeling in just 36-of-69 targets for 430 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers sorely missed Ted Ginn's deep prowess last year but Smith, who is due a whopping $5 million in 2018, isn't the answer. Smith's departure should open up more snaps for Mack Hollins in Philadelphia.

The only thing I can say positive about this is that Worley isn't a big loss. I liked Seymour just as much if not more.

I still say that our focus should be trying to improve both safety positions significantly. You can hide a Seymour or Worley in zone if you have good line and good safeties. Make it happen.

Agree that 1 of our first 2 picks need to be on safety on top of adding someone if free agency.  Even with that, CB is still a need too.  Our secondary was bad, like really bad, last year and there are going to have to be a lot of resources invested to improve it.

What is the problem people have with this trade? I wouldve preferred the contract to be for $4 million and not $5 million but other than that? Im one of the people too who think Worley still has potential to be solid and wouldve liked to see what he does with more experience, but i don't necessarily have a problem with this trade. We need a veteran who we know what we can expect from. Hope Byrd still gets playing time.

Have you watched Torrey Smith play football lately?

We need a legit 100 catch receiver and we got one who hasn't ever caught more than 65 in a season.

Austin who? Tavon? Oh fug no, for what he produces those snaps would be better off going to Samuel and Bird

Tavon Austin is a upgrade above both those guys who have had more injuries than receptions.

Everyone who is saying “we could have just waited until they cut him”. Hello!!!! We could’ve been outbid then. This market has people acting like Sammy Watkins is Randy Moss, you goddamn idiots.

Unless we restructure somehow, I'd say we were comfortable paying him $5 mil a season. No chance he gets that as a free agent.
