There’s this thing the NFL calls “ legal tampering”... that’s where teams are allowed to negotiate with players they want...

Evidently the Panthers FO has never heard of this

Bingo! This is actually what people are saying when Hurney needs to get off his ass and do something. But for some reason there seems to be some people on this forum that are not aware of this either.

The legal tampering with regard to free agency doesn't start till Monday. Trades are different. Those can be negotiated anytime. They just can't be finalized.

Now were that me, if I had a trade agreement in place, I probably wouldn't announce the terms. That'd give another team the chance to make a better offer.

I guess they figure teams will honor the agreements they make, but what if they didn't?

They could be doing it, but just playing it quiet.

I would argue that most teams pretty much ignore this rule and start verbal negotiations much sooner. I think most people know what most teams break this rule and the league doesnt do anything about it.

If you are breaking a league rule, regardless of the fact that other teams do it, it would be beyond stupid to put that fact out there. In other words, how would anyone on this board know if the team was doing this? No one would is the answer. So once again, to be bitching about not actively and publicly pursuing any free agents, 5 days before free agency, and 3 days before you could make it public is just stupid and asinine.
