David Newton : "The right running back to complement Christian McCaffrey might look a lot like McCaffrey"

CMC is most likely going to struggle to put on any more than 7-8 pounds of muscle naturally. He has been training for years been eating right for years, its not like he is new to lifting. CMC needs someone to share the back field with that compliments his running style and size.

Guice ran 4.49 at 224 Ibs at the combine.  Add to that he produced big numbers in the SEC and played hurt.  He is probably worth 24.  Not saying I would but he is probably worth that pick IMO.

I was very impressed with Chubbs combine as well.

Both will be great NFL backs

If you just drafted an RB in the top 10, you shouldn't have to conduct a desperate search to find a running back to compliment him. Get one for a reasonable price in FA, and let CMC work.

Exactly, honestly im hoping we dont even attempt to address it till the 3rd or 4th round. We got to many other needs to prioritize a running back after using a top 10 pick on one.

I'd rather Turner do what he sees fit and not worry about justification of the previous GM's choices.

The linked article doesn't mention a desperate search. It mentions a lot of later round backs from Turners past.

Unless we keep CAP as the power back

He had only 19 carries last season, but he averaged over 5 yards per carry-almost 2 yards per carry more than Stew.  Small sample size, I know.

My dream scenario would be us being able to trade our first and second round picks to Cleveland for their #33 and #35 and take Sony Michel and Christian Kirk at the top of the second. We address speed, Michel can run between the tackles AND has shown a natural catching ability AND with CMac, you’d have 3 guys with great abilities for YAC and making people miss in space. That’s the type of versatility that would scare a defense that also has to worry about Cam taking off.

Both Super Bowl teams this year had maddening backfields. You weren't sure one week to the next who their main back would be. While I don't want to see other teams adopt this approach (mostly for fantasy), it did give both NE and PHI great success last season.
