Gettleman Making Moves

by the way, this is actually a terrible trade for the Giants. Idk what Gettleman's thinking lol.

The only thing bad about it is Ogletree's salary which jumps to $10M per year in 2020.  But the contract is constructed such that they can cut him and save almost all of that on the cap if he doesn't perform.  If he DOES perform up to his non-injured year standards (he made 2nd team All-Pro in 2016) then it wouldn't be an awful salary.

You have the former GM of this team--one that presided over arguably the best period in team history--get surprisingly dismissed less than a year ago and then get hired by a conference foe and you want to try and say "who cares?" or imply that it isn't interesting when he makes moves?  C'mon now.

The fact that he was replaced by the previous failure of a GM is going to lead to comparisons from here on out so buckle up.

4th round pick for a starting mlb?   Don't follow the Ram's or know anything about the dude but if he's any good it's a small investment.

Dudes first 2 years were solid (he made All-Rookie in 2013) then in 2015 he only played 4 games due to injury (broken fibula).  He came back in 2016 and made 2nd-team All-Pro OLB.

Last year, with a new coaching staff, was definitely a step back for him.

I seriously don't understand all this "Rams took'em to the cleaners" stuff.  Ogletree is *clearly* an excellent OLB when in the right system.

it’s only their compensatory 4th too. they still have their original one at the top of the 4th and a fifth round pick that’s in the same neighborhood as the 4th they traded away.

the worst aspect of this trade is the cap hit. but they’re getting a linebacker that’s better than anything they have at that position on the defense.

Antoine Cason all over again. Dude was trash last year, and your better off using that 4th on a prospect.

He went from playing 4-3 OLB from 2013-16 (where he made 2nd-team All-Pro in 2016) to playing 3-4 OLB with the new Rams coaching staff in 2017.

Those two positions are COMPLETELY different animals.  And you're right, dude was trash playing 3-4 OLB.  Wanna know why?  Because he's not a 3-4 OLB.  He's a 4-3 OLB.

In his other 4 years, he had one year lost to injury and 3 years of absolutely solid play (one of those years making All-Rookie and one of the others making 2nd-team All-Pro).

Small risk with possible future benefits.  Nice.
