What concerns me about David Tepper

David Tepper is currently according to some sources the front runner for the Panthers ownership bid. In part because of all the names out there he is by far the richest of the potential owners.

but here is the thing......

http://www.pennlive.com/steelers/index.ssf/2018/01/steelers_owners_tomlin_fire.html

Tepper is apart of the same Steelers miniority ownership group that wanted Mike Tomlin fired because they thought the team would have won it all if Bill Belichick was the headcoach!

i know some of you yahoos see no problem with this line of thinking, but it is a very dangerous way of thinking. It’s part of the reason the owner of the most successfully ran franchise over the history of the NFL didn’t listen to them. because guys if you want to become the Browns, this is exactly how you become the Browns!

You don’t want reactionary football bar fans running your team. You don’t fire Super Bowl winning Headcoaches that also are the winningist headcoach in your teams history(and for the Steelers that’s saying something).

I know the Patriots make winning Super Bowls look easy, but it’s not and you should not use them to compare your teams success too. Why you ask? Becuase they are a aberration, no team under the salary cap era HAS EVEN HAD HALF THE SUCCESS THAT THE PATRIOTS HAVE HAD. That doesn’t mean you can’t learn things from them, it just means you shouldn’t compare yourselves to them, they are in a whole different league and have been for years.

So this is a very important question imo that needs to be asked. How vocal of a member of that group was Tepper?

Was he just part of the group or was he the one pushing for tomlin to be fired? Because if he was, I don’t want him anywhere near the Panthers. Trust me, you don’t want a reactionary owner. Nothing good will come of it.

I don't see how you can say that is reactionary to want Tomlin fired. The Steelers have underperformed with him and he seems to be living off his early success now. It's not like Tomlin is brand new and had an off year. The Steelers are seemingly always a step below in the AFC. I personally don't think about them much as a team we have to contend with and the way the Jags stuck it to them this year shows that.

Agreed. That, plus there's a sense that Tomlin has let things get a little out of control.  A couple of guys mouthed off before the playoff game and it helped cost them.  Afterward, Tomlin acted like it wasn't his place to do anything about it and didn't really seem to acknowledge it meant anything.

John Stallworth was part of that group too.

Meh, I think people with logic and sense should be fairly ambivalent about firing Mike Tomlin. He's made some major mistakes, but he also made some bold calls that turned out good to counter that. If you make bold decisions sometimes its gonna turn out bad and sometimes it isn't. With that being said, the toss play he called on 4th down against jacksonville was boneheaded, and he made one other really bad decision that wasn't "bold" but was just plain stupid in that game I thought was ridiculous.

If he turns the team into the Browns South so be it.  I'll just stop following them and most likely the NFL all together.  It's just a game.

My interest in the NFL outside of the panthers has been waning for years so if that were the case.

Same here.

what could be worse? Maybe an owner with no football knowlege mandating we resign old expensive players just for good feelings..  o wait..

A lot could be worse, like a whole lot. Browns bro the Browns.

Mans believe it or not but Jerry Richardson has done nothing shy of an excellent job as an owner.

I really hope you're not serious here.

The franchise under Richardson has had its moments, but for the most part has been mired in mediocrity.

The best thing Richardson did in his entire term was to step back and let somebody else run things, but he managed to come back and screw that up too.

Richardson valued loyalty to him higher than actual job performance, and it only got worse as he got older.
