....but you were OK with trading for Smith, who will take reps away from a younger guy in Byrd, who's in the same mold as Torrey Smith and TS in fact, redundant.

Yes, because Byrd is not a proven NFL player by any means. He's a UDFA that we took a shot in the dark on and he's been on and off the roster during his time here. He has 11 catches for 121 yards in his entire career and we have virtually nothing invested in him.

So yeah, I'm fine with adding a guy who has shown in the past that he can be the type of dedicated deep threat that this roster lacks and no, I'm not concerned with potentially taking snaps away from a JAG who we have virtually nothing invested in.

Wait, I forgot that this is the Huddle on the eve of free agency. I'm doing this all wrong.

*Huddle logic on* We needz to bakc laod all the curent contractz to free up teh cap space and then sign all teh big name free agentz!!! We should hav kept Norwell and had too of the five highest pade guards in teh NFL!!! Sign Robinson AND Watkins!!!"

fast forward two years...

"Oh noes!!! We're in teh cap hell!!! Fugin' dumbass Hurney!!! I knew this wuld happen!!!"

Just stop.  You're making yourself look like a fool.  ARob wasn't that pricey.  Still, we could've signed someone like Paul Richardson or someone else with upside (Moncrief) for slightly more and then maybe you have a long term solution at a solid price?

Torrey Smith has no upside and just takes reps away from guys who sorely need them.

There's always outliers. The list of guys to successfully return from three ACL injuries at the time TD did it was nonexistent. I'm not dismissing Samuel at all but I'm also not pretending that there is zero cause for concern. Foot/ankle issues tend to be recurring. See: Stewart, Jonathan.

Never said anything about "zero concern". You said red flags as in being an injury prone player.   All players are pron to injury.  It's the nature of the sport.  Freak accidents/injuries cannot be predicted or prevented in this sport.

You want to give a guy who has 1300 career receiving yards in four seasons $8M per season? Damn, I'm glad you're not our GM. Torrey Smith fills a niche that we need and we got him for a CB who we were ready to give up on anyway and he has no guaranteed money in his contract. And here you are crying to give big money deals to shots in the dark. Jesus...

I should know by now what to expect out of people this time of the year yet somehow I'm astounding by the idiocy displayed year in and year out. Maybe that does make me a fool. There's a reason why a lot of regular posters pretty much disappear this time of year.

Two significant ankle injuries does not bode well for the future. That's all I'm saying. Yeah, it's a red flag. Hopefully it does just turn out to be a run of bad luck.

This is exactly what I was saying. Torrey Smith is what he is at 29. An average WR with some speed. Not Ginn speed. These other younger wide receivers being signed for more still have upside. So of course they will cost more. Don't dare disagree with others on this forum about the Torrey Smith signing being a great deal. You are supposed to be sucking Hurneys nuts like the rest of these homers in here.
