Plus the Saints are going all in since Brees is like 50. They will max out their Cap the next three or four years to make things fit for next season.

Panther fans have been accusing the saints of doing this for going on about 8 years now, maybe more

"this is it! Next year is the year! You'll see! Sir Caps A Lot is finally gonna come to collect! New Orleans will be forced to move!! Ha-ha!"

My revised, realistic wish list:

Free Safety

Terrence Brooks  (NY Jets)

$4,000,000

Quarterback Joe Webb (Bills)           $2,000,000
Left Guard

Justin Pugh (NY Giants)

$7,000,000

Nose Tackle

Beau Allen (Eagles)

$4,000,000

theoretically there's no reason a team couldn't be up against the cap every year, just like somebody could more or less live their entire life addicted to heroin

assuming you're always hitting on most or all your draft picks and FA signings every single year in the first example and can always afford to cop in the second example everything is great.

The Pats and Saints (referencing them as they are the teams involved in the original tweet) are both examples of teams always up against the cap and whom have historically struck out on draft picks more than they hit big on them.  I'd be willing to bet that our drafts under both Hurney and GMan were hands down better than theirs until NO's draft last year...  that was a once in a generation draft.

That being said, they have missed a lot.  The difference is, they constantly, and aggressively, plug away at holes they have through FA and trades instead of throwing darts at UDFAs and bargain bin guys like Russell Shephard and hope they become a significant contributor.  Some of the pieces they get are under the radar and become the product of great coaching (although I despise both Payton and Belichick)... but, point is, they go after known quantities and they do it every year.

Every year we have threads filled with people stating we don't have the cap to sign anyone all while equal amounts of posts flood those same FA threads with angry questions of how the Saints keep signing people.

Truth is, Hurney 1.0 overspent on bad investments (which I think was JR's doing), while GMan went radically frugal...  there is a happy medium in between, and I hope Hurney 2.0 finds it.

Let me know when he schedules a meeting with another team, and then I'll be concerned.

Honestly I'm not sure why he doesn't at least talk to some other teams.  It sure would make the Saints FO squirm if he did.   But he knows he has them by the balls and will take them to the cleaners on a new contract.
