Might have something to do with being able to have an intelligent conversation about the team, with all the facts. Not just blaming people blindly for moves without knowing the ramifications to the cap. Fine if you don’t care to. Just stay out of conversations that involve. Ignorance is bliss. Enjoy yourself.

Lol.

I don’t need to grasp the salary cap, because I don’t get paid to do so. Neither do you...neither does that peasant fuzz.

We are all in this season. We backed ourselves into a corner with Gano and are off the hook for less money this year than if we’d have tagged him.

If last year proves to be the new norm for Gano, then we got a quality kicker at a good rate.

Why spend your time worrying about hypotheticals when you have literally no control over the outcome?

Nice.  Name calling.

And no, I don't get paid to understand the cap.  I don't get paid to root for the Panthers.  I don't get paid for writing on a message board.

However I do enjoy doing all of those things.  It will make you a smarter fan if you would try to understand the cap just a bit more.

you realize its more impacting on the kicker for it to be their plant foot right?  Not saying you dont realize that, I just want to clarify. I possibly reading your post incorrectly, but it comes off as you are stating "oh its just his plant foot"

My point was that his injury (regardless of which foot it happened in) occurred late in the year, and doesn't excuse the first 12 games where he missed 3 extra points and 4 FGs.

Understanding the cap has absolutely no bearing on what this team does.

Someone earlier asked for some context, here you go.  Highlighted a couple of the kickers I noticed mentioned in this thread.  Keep in mind, this is an "all time" list of kickers sorted on career FG make %.

Assuming the players in bold are still active, this means there are 18 kickers with a higher career accuracy than our own beloved Gano.  By all means, we should pay him top 5 money.

Hey guys, lets grab our pitchforks and rally around this signing to show our united hatred for Hurney!!! For bonus points let's lie to ourselves and say he was Manipulated into it by the infallible Gettleman.

It was stupid to sign Mare to his big deal, Gano to his first big deal, and this one is the cherry on top.

We had a kicker (who is actually good, like real good) under contract for 4 years for a total of 2.48M dollars.  Total.

Instead we keep Gano who will cost us 17.5M more against the cap than the kicker that we drafted last year would have.

This isn't hindsight is 20/20 stuff, or revisionist history, anyone with a brain knew it was time to go young last year, and knows it was better to let Gano walk this year.

Also, I'm not just upset about this one....this is how Hurney was during his first stint, and why he got fired.  We have a few shots to win a Lombardi...we have the QB, we have a good enough coach, we have a good defensive leader, what we don't have is a pragmatic GM that looks past his radio mic.

Be honest with yourself. You hate Hurney and thats the main reason you hate this move. Ole Hurndog gave Rivera a chance at keeping Butker. Hell, he left him on  the active roster and left the decision up to Rivera. Then he slipped past 30 other teams on our practice squad for 2 weeks.

WTF does Mare have to do with this lol? Btw you do realize Gano's last contract before this one came from Gettleman right?

You just hate Hurney and have to profess it in every thread. We are all aware of his past mistakes. Constantly spamming this forum with your hatred for him or his past mistakes changes nothing.

Nor does typing on a message board, going to the games, buying a jersey, tuning in on Sundays, eating Bojangles, or paying attention to power rankings.

What's your point.  Having a good grasp on the cap allows you to speak about football intelligently, instead of an irrational homer.

@Toomers

@thefuzz

since you two are salary cap experts...what veteran kicker would you have brought in to help us win THIS SEASON. Don’t go backtrack to whining over the Butker situation.

Y'all rolling with a rookie?

What you got?

Tell you what, go back and look up exactly how I would have handled it, and get back to me.

I think I actually posted a couple links to it already.

Also, I don't believe in "all in" on a season, stupid GM's do that kind of stuff.

Don't read well huh?

Someone asked me if I only criticized Hurney, and not DG....I railed agains Mare, Gano, and Gano again....I feel I'm being pretty consistent on overpaying kickers.

I’m far from a homer.

However, there comes a time when you realize that whining over every single move this team makes becomes a giant waste of time.

Also, this isn’t even a move to complain about.

You keep citing Gano's career FG% as the end all be all to define him. You're belittling John Kasay even though for years he was amongst the most consistent kickers in the NFL.

FG% alone doesn't tell you enough to make declarations about clutch ability. Even Olindo Mare is in that list you keep citing. We know damn well he isn't clutch. So at best Gano is inconsistent.

A portion of Kasay’s career was played kicking a normal football instead of the “K-ball” they use today too.

Need to keep up.

I'm not whining about Star and Norwell walking, didn't whine about Norman walking, didn't whine about extending KK or Trai, etc...I do however speak up when I see the team doing something stupid.

This is one of those times.
