Bill Voth Says Panthers Likely Will Make Serious Push For Top WRs On FA Market

First off,  I say this with all due respect (and facetiousness): Ain't nobody trying to hear that!   Bring on Robinson!

Now I know that realistically you are probably right.  No need to get into some serious bidding war,  but I would give it the old college try with a pseudo bidding war.

Lastly,  winning is the name of the game,  not getting a guy his touches because he is whining for them.  Ignition takes spreading the ball around to have success,  then that's  what Norv is going to do.

The question remains do you overpay to get the one guy you want or look at several guys and pick the one with the best value for the role you envision him to play. Particularly when there are guys coming off injury who are still wanting top money.

Lol JJ is a elite WR. You forgot Jeffrey last year. Maclin the year before. Tate before that. I could go on but this year lacks a true solid receiver with out a major injury. Robinson is probably the most complete and he is a injury concern.

Why the LoL about JJ.  I never said he wasn't elite.  My point was Receivers like him don't hit free agency often.

As far as the other guys are concerned here are their career ypg numbers:

Maclin 60 ypg

Tate 52.6 ypg

Jeffery 67 ypg

Robinson 66.2 ypg

Watkins 58 ypg

I get the injury argument but Alshon had seasons of 12 games, 9 games and 10 games.  Injuries and/or suspension maybe?

Maclin has only played in all 16 games in 2 out of 8 seasons.

Paul Richardson and Marquis Lee are the most realistic options if they don't go back to there respective teams.   Allen Robinson and Sammy are gonna be the high priced guys that we cannot afford.  Too many teams with huge cap space we cant compete with.  Yes we have Cam, and winning may be important to them, but we just cannot compete with the Jets, Browns, Niners etc with all there space.  There is a good chance we get shutout of quality FA WRs there is a lot of money out there...Is Mike Wallace a bad backup plan if we have to dip into the third or fourth tier of guys, probably not..This league will continue to favor teams that draft well, and we need to find a quality WR this year.  If Hurney wants to trade up get Ridley and call it a day, the rest of his draft is gonna suck anyway give those picks away lol

I can't imagine the Jags not locking Lee up with them deciding to let Robinson hit the market. They can't afford to lose them both.

The only thing that I can tell you is that if Robinson's market is 10-12 mil per,  then I'm trying to get him here.

Even with that,  we can always acquire another guy.  We add somewhere in the vicinity of a couple if we cut Shep if I'm not mistaken.  And, we can decide to roll with Larsen if things get tight.

Don't  get me wrong,  you're probably right.  Cheaper options with upside like Moncrief and Richardson may be a more realistic option,  but I'd still take more than a cursory look at A-Rob and Watkins. It all depends upon the price.

10 million per year isn't going to break the bank year 1 or 2 and if he is the real deal there will be money.left from everyone retiring. The unsettling trend is how the guaranteed money is going up. A quarterback getting 30 million a year all guaranteed??????? Even if not totally true, Hurney has to limit that this time around as much as he can. We have to have the ability to move beyond players that don't produce and guaranteed money is the issue.

A guy like Wallace could be a good Ginn for a year or two and arguably that's all this team needs, but Watkins and Robinson are the only two with the potential to fill the "true WR1" role. I'm just tired of skimping. You get what you pay for and for all of our bargain hunting we've assembled one of the worst WR corps in the league.

Not true at all but you're entitled to your opinion.

Robinson has back to back 16 game seasons....this was Watkins first ever full season and he only started 15 games.

These are recorded facts not opinions

He was banged up alot in 2015 a calf injury and a ankle injury. He did show out on a bad ankle but still he was always hurt
