I think Hurst is the only guy I’d be pissed taking. I care if our pick busts, but I’d take a chance on the top 1-2 WRs or stud CBs or potential all-pro C/Gs. I don’t think the safeties are good enough for the 1st and honestly I think we are looking at them with our 2nd/3rds. I’d even be happier with an T or LB or DT that have top end potential and could be BPA. I don’t want a LB/DT but I’d rather have one of those that has a chance at being a stud. I just don’t think Hurst at his age has anywhere near top end potential. 1st round picks have to have that potential. We know they could flame out but picking a limited ceiling guy in the first is a waste.

oh look, I found one, hey great timing buddy I appreciate this.

If we honestly waste a first or second on a 25 year old raw rookie TE (Hayden Hurst) im going to be really pissed.

Not liking Hurst because of his age is a valid argument, but if you make it for him you also have to apply it to Ridley to some degree.

Ridley isn't that much younger than Funchess or Amari Cooper. (6-7 months).  1yr and 4months younger than Hurst.

Also, where are people seeing he can block? I literally saw a post from an nfl analyst saying the top 5 TEs in this class were awful at blocking and ranked them from “won’t block” to “allergic to blocking”

this is the only only place I’ve seen say hurst is a good blocker if someone could link me to a source on that that’d be great

I'm not saying Hurst should be the pick, but I have seem people refer to him as the most complete TE in the draft.  Personally, I think Goedert has a higher ceiling.

What is the chance that the coaches and/or Hurney feel like Hurst has the potential to not only enable us to run two TE sets, but also to improve our rushing attack.

How good is Olsen's run blocking?  Maybe it isn't just the potential of 2 TE sets but he Hurst might be on the field some as a single TE on rushing downs?

I could see RR being happy with anything that improves our running game.  I said it in another thread but I could really see a Hurst/Chubb combo with our two first picks.

Truth. I just think Ridley is a better prospect at a higher value position.

His age is a factor that could help to make him available at #24. Like Hurst's age is a factor that could help make him available to us in the 2nd.

Yet you continue to harp on it as a knock on Ridley.

I gotta learn my lesson about trying to engage in conversation with people who have an IQ of room temperature.

You was the one that started with the TD shortage to begin with. Man this site has a bunch of morons. I don't even see why I keep talking to you. Time to go back to ignore.

Yeah and this guy keeps complaining about Hurst's age, and Ridley is 24. Like I said there is a bunch of morons on this site. I hope Hurst gets drafted first so he gets mad and leaves. I really don't care who is drafted as long as it helps us when a super bowl. Linville Douche is annoying as hell.

I wear it as a badge of honor when someone of your intellectual ineptitude thinks I'm a moron. It's when I find myself in agreement with mouth breathers that I feel the need to reevaluate.

Lol. There are plenty of good to great interior OL selected in the mid to late first. Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, Ryan Kelley, Mike Pouncey, David DeCastro, etc.

Late first is when the top G/C usually comes off the board, but obviously you didn’t know that. Also, I’m assuming that you have no idea that C/G is one of if not the best position in this draft. TE is not close. Last year, TE was a top position. So, you’d rather us take the top TE at age 25 in a poor TE pool in the first rather than the 2nd best (Nelson may go top 5) G or 1st C (who could play guard as well) in a strong class that are 2-4 years younger? Wow, that’s smart.

I’m glad you appreciate having a plus Ed Dickson as your first rounder rather than having Ryan Kalil part deux who’ll be 21 or 22.

your collection of rote 'isms straight from the drafttek blog boards have nothing to do with the point I made but thanks for the insight into your analytical prowess as a whole

He's a push blocker.  By that, I mean he doesn't lock on the defender, he just pushes him away from the play.  The problem is that this means the defender is still able to get back in the play since he doesn't have to try and disengage from the block.  Many, many time I saw him push his man away from the play, then stand there and watch as the defender gets back in the play.

From the look of it, it seems more to be an issue of want to than ability IMO.  It just doesn't look like Hurst really wants to do the dirty work and fully engage in his blocks.  I think he knows it's something he needs to do, but it's not something he enjoys or puts as much focus on as he should.  And quite frankly, I don't know if it's something that can be coached up...either you have the desire to get your nose in there or you don't.

Honestly, this is the case for virtually every TE coming out of college football these days. For the most part, they're basically being used as jumbo slot WRs. Most of them spend a ton of time split out and a lot less time on the line.
