RiotReport: Breaking Down Funchess, Samuel, And Byrd & Why A Flashy FA May Not Be Necessary

I really liked the analysis in the article.  I also love the rose colored glasses in the off season =)

Realistically, we do need a proven WR, even they don't catch the world on fire.  Someone who can do the job on 3rd and 4.  I'd also love to see more speed in a Mike Wallace signing.  He'd give us that Ginn type that we really need.  I'm not sure that Byrd or Samuel are that guy.

I'm also all for getting another receiving tight end.  Doesn't have to be a #1 pick, but someone who can at least threaten when we go 2 TE sets.

And a Guard.  Thankfully this draft has been said to be very deep at guard.

Get everyone healthy and on the field.  I think we can have some success this year.

Does anyone ever look at the stats on accuracy?

First, let's get an offense where Cam is protected, then, lets work on his mechanics and make him more accurate, THEN, you can evaluate your receivers and bring in 20 more if need be, but the cart before the horse thing is laughable

If we go into next season with Funchess, Samuel, and Byrd as our top three WRs then Cam Newton should hold out and/or demand a trade. No joke. That would be fuging atrocious and you know it. You convinced yourself that Russell Shepard was going to be an answer this season too. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but sometimes you try a little too hard to convince yourself.

I agree for the most part but I also believe Norv can get much more out of them then Shula ever did

We need to sign a proven receiver.  I understand trying to develop the young guys and giving them ample time, but at this point you need to put some proven talent on the field.  How do you even give a fair assessment of Cam without doing that?

I don't think we even need a major overhaul.  Add a quality outside receiver opposite of Funchess and everyone kind of falls in place.  I really think that between Samuel, Bryd, and CMC we can handle the slot.  Maybe add a cheap FA or a 2-4th round WR to be a backup on the outside.  That gives you 5 receivers plus CMC.

that first page makes it pretty clear who actually read the article and who just simply posted their reactionary hot takes.

the article was well done and made valid points. I believe it even acknowledged that the WR room needs proven vet leadership. It wasnt saying that our corps is complete, just that it isnt as bad off as people want to believe that it is.
