I don't buy that anything is a "done deal" this far out from the start of free agency.

No, I don't think Norwell comes back here, but I don't buy that there's already a deal in place somewhere else.

Gettleman's wife is disappoint

I just hope Hurney puts the money to use, and we don’t get caught up in this game of worrying about the future with the anticipation of a 3rd round pick for losing him. Need to look towards the future, but you have to live in the present as well.

I remember when the panthers foolishly rescinded the tag from Norman and just sat on that excess money. We could’ve used that to get better.

With new ownership right around the corner and Hurney's past, well let's just call it "spotty" record, I think he knows overall feeling of this offseason needs to be pretty damn positive and the roster fielded by the Panthers needs to be pretty damn impressive for him to have any chance of keeping this job long enough to make draft picks in 2019.

The one concern I have about being able to compete for big name free agents is that signing bonuses are paid out immediately. With the franchise already for sale, how is that going to work? Will Jerry Richardson be writing that check out of his personal checking account with no expectation of reimbursement? If that's the case, then I think you can kiss any big names (or even moderate names) goodbye. Ain't gonna happen. I have no idea how those types of things have been handled in the past or if there's even a way to handle them in terms of the negotiated sale price, but it's definitely something that's crossed my mind.

not necessarily, but it’s not like he’ll find the replacement value out there, hence my original point in this thread

If that's the point you're trying to make you might be missing something. I get what you're saying, but by saying it you acknowledge that it's difficult as poo to hit on studs along the OL altogether. Hitting on one as a UDFA is a rarity. Drafting one isn't that much less of a crapshoot these days either. But throwing a kings ransom at a guy with FA money? Well I thought this was a no no that only meddling owners forced upon blameless general managers?

We sealed his fate when we extended turner instead of norwell, always like and thought norwell was the better of the two.

Glad the days of dumping money and too many resources in particular positions may be over.

Exactly. Why is there surprise when the things predicted a year ago come to be true.  Nobody expected him to return and now it's a travesty.

difficult if you’re good. almost impossible if you’re an unqualified hack like our current GM has proven himself to be.
