Fun Fact - Seattle And Carolina Are The Only Two Teams Whose Kicker Has Not Made A 50+ Yard Field Goal During The Regular Season

I don’t understand the uproar against Gano.

Seattle and us only attempted 1 from 50+ last year in the regular season.

Only 10 teams made 10 or more from the 40-49 mark. Gano was the only one at 100% from that distance going 10-10.

He hit the 48 yarder as time expired to beat the patriots in New England.

He also hit a 58 yarder in the playoffs.

To be fair, this is more on Rivera than Gano.

For sure.  Here, let's punt when losing, when we could try a 52 yard field goal... or better yet, let's just kneel out the half instead of trying for a 55 yarder.

Time to put Ron back on the hotseat so he can coach with some cajones

His 2017 along with missing at the wrong time (including the chip shot in NO) will do it.

Good leg all day but he's had a tendency to miss the big ones in his career more than the game winners.  I.E: Denver W1 2017, TB Week 17, NO Playoffs, I'm missing a handful but those are at the top of the dome)

A 50 yard FG is anything beyond and including the LOS being the 33

According to NFL.com situational stats for Palardy he had 8 punts total that originated from the 20 to 49 yard line.

So the question here is how many of those 8 punts between 20 and 49 were actually outside of say the 38 (38 to 49). I will take these away since it's very explainable why you don't attempt 55+ yard FG if you don't need to.

How many times did Palardy punt when the LOS was between the 20 and 38 yard line and how many times did we go for it on 4th instead (something everyone always seems to want). This will give you the number of times Gano was refused the opportunity  to kick a 50 to 55 yard FG.

Making any judgement of Rivera or Gano without knowing this number isn't analysis.

Well, Gano had a historically accurate season, but could there be more than what lies on the surface behind that?

Maybe, maybe not. Well, anyways here's a fun stat:

The other kicker that didn't?  Seattle's kicker?

The horrible Blair Walsh.
