Again, no other team was rushing to cut their veteran kicker to sign him. He was only signed after an injury.

I'm really concerned with the 31 other teams' pro personnel scouting departments.

So wait, let's back things up a bit here. Is Hurney actually running the show, or is he basically just an empty suit doing JR's bidding? The consensus on that seems to change rapidly. For months we've heard about ol' meddling Jerrrruhhhh Richardson forcing DG into backing up a brinks truck to one of the worst left tackles in football in Matt Kalil. Then we heard about how JR fired DG because Davis and Olsen supposedly whined to JR about how mean Gettleman was. So does JR have a hand in these current decisions, or doesn't he?

If it was so obvious that the correct call was to cut our veteran kicker for him then why weren't other teams doing it?

Depends on who it is.  People change it constantly the fit the narrative to whatever they are trying to get across.

Selective memory at it's finest.

Gano was coming off of a horrible season with us hitting less than 80% of his kicks.  Also would be entering the final year of an overpriced contract, while having a much younger, cheaper kicker signed to a 4 year deal on the roster.

He had a good year last year, but there was no way for us to know that going in, and he still attempted ZERO FG's from 50 out, while missing 3 extra points.

2016....30-38....and again missed 3 extra points.

 

Dumb move then, dumb move now.

Yep, you're definitely having a selective memory if you don't recall all the talk of Butker struggling in camp last year.

Look, I wanted Butker to beat out Gano too. I think we all did. But, by all accounts Butker struggled through camp while Gano looked great. If we had a time machine, sure we'd go back and go with Butker but I understand why we went with Gano. We went with the best kicker at the time. Like you said, there was no way for us to know.

Graham Gano is a higher priority re-sign than Star. Accept it and deal with it.

You are using 2 missed kicks out of 6 for a rookie kicker on a single day to back this move up?

It's not just about the damn kicker, it's about the contracts and cap as well.

There is a way to know......the financial side of the business.  Look at the damn contract, and make the smart financial move for the best fo the Carolina Panthers.

Dude, Butker was Olindo Mare-like during training camp. It wouldn’t have been wise to roll with him. We didn’t want replicate the Bucs kicking situation.
