Sammy Watkins Is NOT Expected To Get The Franchise Tag, Alongside Allen Robinson

sammy watkins is the cam newton of WRs. In pathetic situations and full potential never realized.

Watkins on a 10-12mil multi year deal for us would be a huge steal.

Yes.  We have about $30 m

A third of that toward our biggest need is understandable. Grab Watkins, and your draft becomes much easier.  Carolina has to look like a nice landing spot for him--need a #1 WR, near home, and a winning team.

He's a low end receiver at best, at this point.

If Sammy or Allen are indeed looking for 8-12 million. We have to at least call the agent up.

I agree we should call.  But there is a big difference between 8m and 12m.  I'm all for 8m, but I would definitely pass if the price is 12m.  Too many other needs and I'd rather not have to start 5 rookies next year.

12 for Watkins or Robinson would be worth it IMO. We were about to give Kelvin Benjamin that amount of money this year, sadly.

I'm on board for talking to Watkins, we really do need that deep threat who is MORE than just a deep threat.  We need a receiver who can run the entire route tree so that our complementary pieces aren't being used in quite so obvious ways.  He was targeted less than 15% with the Rams last year, but managed to score over 25% of their receiving TD's.  I'd like to know if the target numbers were by play design or because he wasn't getting separation.  No idea on that.

I'm not sure he's 10 million worth (guaranteed).  His career stats are barely better than KB's.  I think he has the potential to really fit our offense tho.  I'd give him 5 years, 20 to sign, 4 per season and another 4 per season in reasonable-for-a-wr1 incentives.  If he plays like a number 1, he's making 12 a year.  If plays like a decent but not outstanding WR, he's making 8 - 10.  That seems reasonable.

I don't like Robinson at all.  Too much like KB / Funchess for me.

Additional items to add to the fire:

The Packers WRs, Broncos group, and Michael Crabtree. Those are the most intriguing of potential cap casualties still to come.  Denver secured DT but I think Sanders could end up a casualty who I find rather interesting.

I'd rather have Emmanuel Sanders to go with Funch. Watkins clearly has some kind of attitude issue that is preventing him from reaching his full potential and I don't think that'll change here.

I'm for Sanders/Robinson or bust.

Based on what? He had two solid seasons in Buffalo then missed half the season in his third year and the Bills decided to trade him for a 2nd round CB largely because they were frustrated about his recurring health issues... and they really needed CB help. The Rams' offense is just a horrible fit for him.

I'm not seeing anything to indicate any attitude issues.
