Tag and Trade Norwell -

People tend to think just about the player being traded and not the contract.

If he was on a 5yr/40m dollar contract you would have a lot easier time trading him.  As it stands now he is probably looking for 60m/5yrs, how many teams are really willing to pay that, let alone give up a second rounder to pay that much.

I live in Houston and have already heard local radio talking about signing Norwell to the Texans and Cowboys.  His market is going to be huge.  I guarantee we could find a tag and trade partner. Every fanbase in the NFL seems to be screaming for this guy.

Get a 2nd oh man we could rebuild for the future easily.

1 Harrison S (The Enforcer)

2 Chubb RB (CMC compliment back)

2 Hurst TE (Olsen future replacement)

3 Ragnow C/G (Kahlil future replacement)

3 Bates III S (The Hawk)

I was not for it until I heard the demand from multiple team sport radios, websites, etc.

Norwell has been great but a high draft pick would do wonders.

Still nine days to apply a tag. This lets us digest the combine results, see if there is something on the vine there that can replace Norwell with training, allow Norwell to test the market and find his own fair market price and then see if there are some wranglings that can be done with contracts to give him the money but shuffle the hit over later years.

No need to rush here. Whatever is offered to him, I'm sure they will come back to Carolina for a chance of a better deal.

deadline is tomorrow bud. Free Agency starts in 9 days.

Because if we don't move him we're stuck with his cap hit and it prevents us from signing/retaining other FA's.

Exactly, and if the scenario is "we get a 2nd round pick"...why would we take on the risk of eating his contract when letting him walk will net us a 3rd round comp pick?

Is it against the rules to have been looking for a trade partner beforehand?

Others teams would say thanks for thinking of us but we'll wait till he hits FA. He can effectively kill any trade by refusing to sign long term, so we don't have any leverage. If you tag someone you have to be prepared to keep them at that price and we're not.

Because if you tag him, he'll probably sign it immediately . . . and then you're trying to trade a guard who has a franchise LT contract.  He might be the best guard in the NFL, but no one is going to pay him LT money.

not saying i believe this but I've seen a lot of

"it doesn't matter what he should get paid it only takes 1 team to overpay him"

on here lately, especially in regards to landry

I understand that completely, I meant, I wonder if Norwell would be in on it too, like basically us telling him we can't afford him but wanna get something in return, so where do you wanna go and we'll try to make it happen...

You know poo like that goes on behind closed doors that nobody ever heard about, curious if we'd do it
