Tag and Trade Norwell -

WHAT IF...

Gettlemen is fuggin with us?  He has a TON of needs, and the Giants are not likely to re-sign Pugh.  Why would he then pay a ton for Norwell?  It makes no sense.  They need a whole new OL.

He loves his hog mollies, but what if he covets a G/C in the draft and fears we will take him?  Lotta scenarios, but I would not trust a rumor so easily put out there this time of year.

Because if you tag him, he'll probably sign it immediately . . . and then you're trying to trade a guard who has a franchise LT contract.  He might be the best guard in the NFL, but no one is going to pay him LT money.

he has to sign the tag for us to trade him in the first place.  the odds are overwhelming that we're going to be stuck with him on a very expensive one year deal if we try to pull off a tag and trade.  they're rare for a reason.

Why on earth do we not tag and trade him for a 2nd Round Pick? He's young and good enough to warrant the pick.

LOL, remember Julius Peppers Franchise Tag debacles?

When was the last time a guy was FT'd  signed and was traded successfully?

The Patriots raping the Chiefs for Matt Cassel doesn't count.

Still nine days to apply a tag. This lets us digest the combine results, see if there is something on the vine there that can replace Norwell with training, allow Norwell to test the market and find his own fair market price and then see if there are some wranglings that can be done with contracts to give him the money but shuffle the hit over later years.

No need to rush here. Whatever is offered to him, I'm sure they will come back to Carolina for a chance of a better deal.
