you guys are getting excited over nothing. we are not signing this guy.

in other news...........

ESPN's Vaughn McClure reports the Falcons are "one of multiple teams" discussing a trade for Seahawks DE Michael Bennett.

Rumours about Bennett being traded have been starting to gain steam as of late. McClure didn't seem overly confident yet in the Falcons chances of striking a deal saying "nothing is imminent." The Falcons could be a good fit for Bennett who played under Dan Quinn in Seattle from 2013-to-2014.

The more I think about it the more I think we should at least offer a Davante Adams type contract. We need an outside receiver so bad and the way contracts are going, the longer we wait the more expensive it’s going to get.

Robinson is coming off a pretty damn poor 2016 and then missed all of this year essentially. To shell out any guaranteed money past year one would be silly. 1 year prove it deal makes perfect sense for us though.

They played some decent teams, including the extremely hot with an elite D Jags team. Jimmy lit them up with scrubs at receiver. I'm not sold on him yet because it'll be different when teams have film on him but there is a lot about the kid that looks very good and I think Shanahan is a solid coach.

I think he looks good too, and he did do so with some scrubs, but is 5 wins a selling point to an nfl player? I really doubt it. MVP Qbs are selling points to other players

This is actually BAD news for us. Allen Robinson is completely out of our price range while Marqise Lee would have been a very real possibility for us.

Why do people keep saying this?

We can offer him up to 14mil on a realistic offer, especially if Norwell is leaving. We would basically give Norwell's money to A Rob.

Why don't you think we can afford him?

I just don't think we can do it. Not for a guy coming off of an ACL. Of course, Adams' contract is 4 years/$58M but in reality it's a 2 year/$28M contract. I don't think there's any way he sees those last two years where his cap number jumps up to $16M+. The Packers can release him after the 2019 season and save over $9M in cap space in 2020 and $16.6M in 2021 or make him a post June 1st cut and save $13M in both '20 and '21... or they could workout an extension to lower his cap hit.

After looking at the structure of the deal, I'm not so sure I wouldn't be alright with offering him that deal IF the knee checks out.

That's pretty serious money.

I mean that as I feel some other team is going to offer that so we will have to at least compete against contracts of that value. Every season that goes by the price for a top WR is going to get more and more expensive, especially with the quality of WR coming out of recent drafts.

Just look at how crazy QB contracts are getting. Look at what Cousins is projected to get and just be glad we were able to lock Cam up when we did. Come his next contract though... fml.

Depends on the cost. If it's something like a 1 year prove it deal, less than $13M or so then sign me up. If he's getting long term deal offers for more than that then hell no... And with the Huddle all agreeing on it I'm having second thoughts. The Huddle doesn't have a great track record collectively with these kinds of things...

Honestly, I'm not worried about the cost as much as his knee.  I know what he can do. I know that he is a legitimate WR1 and potential HoFer (if things go right),  and the cap is increasing such that what's signed today will be a deal tomorrow.  If Dr. Anderson says the knee looks great and should be fine going forward,  then a prove-it deal is unnecessary, and might provide him an exit in the future, or compel us to pay even more in the future.  For a playmaker of his caliber,  I'm not going to quibble over 2-3 mil per year,  unless I had to.

Imagine: Robinson,  Funchess, and Olsen with regularity for the next two or three years.  Then add in Samuel and CMC,  and top it off with Chubb or Michel.  Opposing DCs would have some sleepless nights.

Plus the increased freedom in the draft. We could pretty much scratch WR off the list in the first three rounds... or we could still take a WR with the plans of letting Funchess walk.

I saw some of those games.  Suffice it to say that Bortles of 2016 was not the Bortles of 2017, and the offensive play calling "sucked monkey balls" as they say.

Because we have too many holes to fill. We can not afford him or Sammy Watkins. Y'all are wasting ur time with these dumb ass threads. Y'all going to be mad when it's for someone like Albert Wilson from KC or just keep Russell Shepherd. Lmao the huddle has gone crazy!!!!

To be fair, I'm not sure Albert Wilson would be such that bad an option.

Albert Wilson is a very good consolation prize if we were to get one from this FA class. He'll fill our needs and likely do well with our corps.

Sammy Watkins is like the perfect prime rib on the platter just waiting right in front of you. Allen Robinson is the aged fine wine you've been waiting ages to drink. However, Albert Wilson is that delicious side option you certainly wouldn't mind eating alone and taking home. Although it's not as flashy as the main dishes, it's still a fantastic eat and gets the job done.
