Phin Insider Radio Claims He Thinks Carolina Is A Front-Runner For A Trade For Jarvis Landry

We threw the ball around 500 times last year.

Funchess got 111 targets last year.  He will probably get more with Benjamin gone.

Olsen will be back and he will want his 100+targets.

CMC was targeted 113 times and will likely get even more next year.

Samuel will be back and we should try to get him at least 60-70 targets.

We need someone to stretch the field.  If we re-sign Byrd, I could see him getting 30-40 targets.

Our shiny new RB and TE2 will need 40-50 targets combined.

That's around 475 targets.

So who will be giving up targets so that we can throw it to Landry 150 times next year?  Do we really need to spend draft capital and 15m?

I say find a smart vet with good hands that can chip in 2-3 catches a game for 20-30 yards per game.  That should not cost us a draft pick and should not be more than 1-2m.  Wait - I just described Bersin.

it's really remarkable how quickly people default back into stretching out absurd and ridiculous rationals like this

We'll see you in November when you're complaining about the position again.

I'm a Landry fan, but i wouldn't give up more than a fourth, especially since we have to pay him.  He's an elite slot guy, but i think it will prohibit some formations when we have to put McCaffrey in the slot.  All in all he's a better WR than anyone on our team (even Funch), but not sure he's the best fit.  Then again i don't know who we can get in FA that will be better than him.  Marquis lee can play the outside and will be significantly cheaper in terms of both dollars and draft picks (none) , but is he better?  I'm all for any means of upgrading this WR core, and if that means Hurney throwing even a third at the dolphins for jarvis, its better than him wasting it on a third round bust as he usually does.

We are going on 23 years with the Panthers and I've watched them since the beginning we have never had but one great wr and that's Steve Smith. I'm not saying get Landry but we have to go get a number one wr in FA for Cam. We only have 2-3 years left we these guys to make a super bowl run. If not we wasted Cam's career. They have never tried to have any true number one wrs. We have to grow some balls as an organization and go get some people to when a championship for all these guys that have stayed here through everything. This season should be called "Whatever It Takes".

I wouldn't be surprised to see us chase him. Probably better than anyone we could get at #24 and with a more immediate impact.

Sounds like they want to go all in this year and this would be a bold move showing their intent.

There's nothing in Hurney's past as GM that would make me think he wouldn't do this, even if he gave up a first. The dude is a gambler. No way he sits tight with the picks we've got while trying to make an immediate splash. It would make a big story as well, which had always been a motivating factor with his PR background.

if we can get him for a 3rd and its a friendly deal im all for it. it narrows our priorities in the draft. the WR in this class are brutal. Norwell isnt resigning. we have the cap and i think hes a great fit in our offense. we have two WR already with burner wheels. showed much improvement in the redzone this year.

that said - are we going to extend olsen? His cap number is huge and extending another year could drop his number.

Honestly,  if this were truly the case, I just don't know how I'd feel about it.  My first impression would be to curse the man out,  but I guess that I'd have to look at the overall numbers and listen to the plan before I rail against it for being crazy.

I hate being loose with draft capital.  That's one thing that made me start looking at Gettleman more skeptically. But,  if you're trying to go after a playmaker,  sometimes it's a must. I'm just somewhat skeptical that Landry is that guy. I mean,  he was in a questionable situation,  but his efficiency was pretty bad.  Could playing with Cam and under Norv maximize his skill set? Maybe.  But,  he could also be collecting inflated paychecks for decidedly average production (even as it pertains to this offense).  Not to mention that I don't know how it will affect the future Funchess contractual talks.

Landry is better than any WR in this year's draft. Would you give up our 1st rounder for him?  I would

Team has too many holes, and it won’t get better next year, to be taking on his salary which too will almost certainly mean giving up draft choices he would require if tagged. I don’t remember if they tagged him.

Of course, Hurney and trading up is well known

if the Panthers were one player away and stocked on both sides of ball, different story

Emmanuel Sanders,...

we have our poor mans Moose or Alshon in Funchess,.. we don’t have a Steve Smith or even a Torrey Smith,..

theres another name,. phili is overcap, so go get Torrey Smith,..

we need one of those types of guys.

Samuel is more of a slot guy anyway, a Nelson Agholar, but going to be a IR baby, and Byrd is the word is all great on the field,.. but another IR baby.

Landry I won’t cry, and I could see why— Rivera made reference to Jerricho Cotchery— Jarvis is a younger version—

but id rather see one of the guys I said, or Sammy Watkins or some catch over the shoulder take the top off legit downfield receivers.

All this "slot receiver" stuff... look man. We don't have Shula anymore. We have an OC with a deep knowledge of route combinations. With CMC drawing coverage it could be easy to get this dude open, then wait for the YAC. We actually know he will catch it.  I just want a CONSISTENT FUGGIN WR. We haven't had that since Smitty left. Fug it, throw dollars at this cat. Proven commodity.

Great point. It's easy to dismiss big money FA for frugality's sake, but honesty #1 caliber guys don't come around often and the window is closing. I'd rather overpay for a reliable guy like Landry while we still have say in the matter than overpay for a band-aid like Kalil out of desperation.

Damn right! Also, our offense has timid players. They got straight bullied against the saints, even the oline got bullied. We ran a qb sneak on 4th and inches and we BARELY converted it. Our offense needs its swagger back. Landry could bring the "Juice" to this offense and he wouldn't give up on plays like funchess did cuz Landry has passion for the game ..just like my pops :)

I'd give up a 2nd and another mid to late rounder for him, a proven, reliable, pro bowl wr.
