Not if we take on his franchise tag salary and aren't guaranteed a long-term contract. I still wouldn't be willing to pay if he wants top-10 WR money because that, he is not

He’s absolutely a top 10 WR

He does produce, but honestly show me a WR who’s had 150 targets per year and not produced. The fact that he’s only got about 1000 yards per season on that volume isn’t impressive. I’d bet you’d be hard pressed to find any WR in history that’s done less with that volume.

Again you people look at those numbers and say oh he’s just a volume guy. I see a guy operating in an offensive that’s trying to protect a QB who isn’t that good.

I’m a landry fan and I don’t see how this works in our favor. Long term deal would have to be in place on top of trading a late round pick, no way I trade any picks 1-3 for him, especially after seeing what the rams gave up for peters. Plus if the deal is for more than 12 mil a year I’m not really interested

Doubt they take less than a third... otherwise just let him walk and get the comp pick.

Do you think Watkins is better than Landry?

I think Watkins has a better chance of being a deep threat outside receiver, which I'm not convinced Landry can be.  Also I'm not convinced we have anyone on the roster to fill that role

I think Landry is the better slot type receiver which I think we have several on the roster that could probably fill that role.

Watkins has averaged 58.7 yards a game in his career.

Landry has averaged 63.1 yards a game in his career.

Which player fits what Cam does best?

So Dolphins gave him permission yesterday to get a deal setup for a trade. Since everyone is already at the combine right now, I'd imagine he can work on this pretty quickly with all suitors at the ready. How fast can we expect a decision? Additionally, since he now has permission to basically choose his destination, does that work in our favor if we can agree to a deal with him? I feel like it does because if he goes back to Miami with our offer and he's happy and wants to come here, that puts more pressure on them to move him at his demand. Otherwise, if they bungle the trade deal with us, he could retaliate by not signing and just sitting out. I think we'd get some amount of leverage in a better trade deal with Miami if we woo Landry. Could be a good setup for a sweeter trade deal than normal.

We threw the ball around 500 times last year.

Funchess got 111 targets last year.  He will probably get more with Benjamin gone.

Olsen will be back and he will want his 100+targets.

CMC was targeted 113 times and will likely get even more next year.

Samuel will be back and we should try to get him at least 60-70 targets.

We need someone to stretch the field.  If we re-sign Byrd, I could see him getting 30-40 targets.

Our shiny new RB and TE2 will need 40-50 targets combined.

That's around 475 targets.

So who will be giving up targets so that we can throw it to Landry 150 times next year?  Do we really need to spend draft capital and 15m?

I say find a smart vet with good hands that can chip in 2-3 catches a game for 20-30 yards per game.  That should not cost us a draft pick and should not be more than 1-2m.  Wait - I just described Bersin.
