rather than waste our time with overrated slot receivers like jarvis landry we could be pursuing a true top WR like Sammy Watkins for even less than what's likely being offered to Landry.

I get your point,  but "true top WR like Sammy Watkins" hasn't been proven yet.  Watkins hasn't really proven that his body can withstand the rigors of the NFL on a consistent basis. Last season should have been his break out,  but it was a disappointment.

Landry is better than any WR in this year's draft. Would you give up our 1st rounder for him?  I would

we got Jimmy Clausen around this spot...so, yeah. and an experienced WR is what Cam needs.

A lot of people in this thread are assuming the way the Phins used Landry is the only way he can be used. He will be in a different system here. If we are going after him I trust the staff believes they can elevate his game. He is clearly superbly talented.

I don’t get the people here who wouldn’t want Landry. He’s literally the definition of the type of receiver we need. He’s got some of the best hands in the league. He’s averaged 100 catches a year. He’s eclipsed 1000 yards twice. He’s done all of this with a converted WR/QB who can’t throw it more than 50 yards in the air and a bunch of replacements...

Name the other guys in this league who are putting up those numbers consistently with bad QBs. Then figure out how many of them could be had for less than 15 million annually.

Do you think Watkins is better than Landry?

I wouldn't be mad at this, especially if Norv says he can work with this type of WR. I think that's most important.

Landry has the attitude to thrive off a player like Cam and I think he'd be served well with him. He also gives some attitude to the rest of the offense and WR room. The guy can catch and is slippery. Those are some things we'e lacking.

Looking at his stats, he was averaging 10.5 and 12 yards per catch in 2015 and 2016. It dipped last year, but having a guy who can catch the ball and average a first down is all we need. His TD numbers are low, but our WRs traditionally have lower numbers because of Cam and our RBs. Overall, I like his numbers. I think his targets will drop here obviously, but I also think he'll be sent further down field here, so his numbers will probably look more efficient.

Miami hasn't been that great offensively, their QB is not *really* that good. Plus they've been built more on shorter stuff. It makes sense to me that a QB who isn't as good in a system with more short routes will dump the ball off more to his most reliable WR causing less yards while still having a high target/reception rate. Our offense is very different and Cam will push it downfield.

I think the real question will be how Landry will adjust to a team where he may not get as high a quantity of touches and how well he does when he starts working deeper into the field. I know Ron said we want a Cotchery, so Landry will still get short/intermediate looks to fill that role, but if he is gonna be a #1 WR here, he's gonna be further downfield more often.

Looking at his stats, I feel more optimistic about him here. I've always liked his catching ability and elusiveness. He seems to have a better head on his shoulders than Beckham too, while still carrying that LSU swag.

Rivera made comments earlier about picking a veteran in the "cotchery" mold. Well this would be it. But I agree with most. I won't be thrilled with shipping out pick and giving up a large contract.

Yeah this.

If Landry is anything he'd be a better Cotch.

We wanted a vet WR. If this is true Landry probably fits the mold.

Still want a consistent deep threat.

Idc what all of our resident twitter analysts say.

i want this dude on my team

Honestly?

I'd make the trade and hammer out a long term deal. I'd consider giving up a second to do it too. There's no Rookie WR that we could draft that would have his immediate impact on the offense, and let's be real, it's not like Hurney would actually do anything with that second round pick anyway.

So I really don't care if his depth of target is bad. He's got hands like glue and he runs nice routes. He'd give us immediate depth at a position we are ridiculously thin at, as well as a new proven weapon.
