Phin Insider Radio Claims He Thinks Carolina Is A Front-Runner For A Trade For Jarvis Landry

I know some are down on Landry and that he isn’t the most physically gifted guy available but unlike a lot of WRs out there, Landry produces.

I could see him fitting in nicely with our group. Not a speed demon. But a consistent target wth yards after catch ability who is no threat to Funchess’ development or Byrd’s or Samuel’s for that matter. He’s also still young and isn’t a draft bust risk. So I see the logic in attaining him. That said I would like to not pay 16 million for him.

Landry is better than any WR in this year's draft. Would you give up our 1st rounder for him?  I would

I wouldnt give up a 1st or 2nd. if you can sign a  guy via free agency cool but giving up draft picks no thanks

Rivera made comments earlier about picking a veteran in the "cotchery" mold. Well this would be it. But I agree with most. I won't be thrilled with shipping out pick and giving up a large contract.

...and this is what scares me.  I can see our staff convincing themselves what we need is a dependable, sure handed, hard working type of receiver.  BTW we don't mind giving up a pick for the honor of paying $15m a year for said receiver.

If you want a sure handed slot receiver draft a RB in the first round, move CMC to slot, and pay 15m for a receiver with a proven history playing from the outside with deep speed.

And we don't even know if Robinson or Watkins are going to be tagged yet.

fuging exactly. Both Samuel and CMC were working in the slot last season and they were our top 2 draft picks from 2017. Landry isn't the outside WR we're looking for  , AT ALL.

Hes not going to suddenly become a good deep threat if we overpay for him in picks and salary wise which is likely what it would take to get him here. Since  in this hypthetical situation we paid so much for him, you pretty much need to start him. So you have two slot WR or possibly even 3 slot WR type players (CMC, Samuel, Landry) , and you still only have 1 proven dude on the outside (Funchess).

Its almost like the KB /Funchess problem but instead of having too many big slow dudes were going to have too many slot dudes who have questionable ability to stretch the field on the outside. As seemingly promising as Byrd was, he didn't really stretch the field either in real games last year, lot of short and intermeddiate stuff.

What were desperately missing is the Ginn/S.Smith factor of some dude at any given play can just sprint down the field , cam can chuck that bitch up, and we can have a long ass TD once or twice a game and will keep the defense out of the box. That was a huge HUGE factor last year as to why we coudlnt run too well in alot of the season, at practically no point in the entire season did we scare defenses with deep throws down the field.
