Hurney flew back from the Combine to tell J-Stew in person he was released.

If you believe for a second gettleman didn’t treat everyone with respect. You are incompetent. It is a business and he treated it as such. Much like our dear coach up in New England.

This poo right here,

Let me breaks down the facts for you.

Gettleman: fired because JR got a racist wedgy. Took a sabatical for a season. Immediately got rehired by another team.

Hurney: had two good season in 11 years. Got fired, couldn’t even get a job in football. Became a glorified radio host. Got rehired, behind a scandal and a falsification of the Rooney rule. And will proceed to destroy this team.

This isn’t rocket science.

He told Jon Beason he was faking his injury.

I'm happy for all of what Gettleman did for this team, and I get why he was probably cold with his cuts, he didn't want emotions tied in it.

But don't act like he was respectful for everyone

Just my opinion, but beyond all the other BS that has been going on with this franchise, I think it was the right thing to do considering what JStew has meant to this team over the years. That doesn't negate my strong opinions on other team related matters, it just affirms that Jonathan was a really great teammate who deserved a face to face interaction at the least.

The Gettleman4life fans going around mucking up every thread have become exactly what they have railed against for so long. Log out for awhile and go outside dude.

Exactly. I think Gettleman was w great GM for us and what he did for this team, he obviously made mistakes but none of them were franchise damaging.

However, he was cold and handled things without respect sometimes, too many players here who desrved better, Steve, Beason and DWill (well, what he did for this franchise anyway) didn't deserve to be cut like that.

It's kind of understandable after everything that happened to this team, why Hurney felt the need to come back and tell him in person.

Why are people stuck on the two kicker thing? It made absolutely no difference either way. It is just something for people who only see skin deep to complain about.

Not quite true.

A big reason why a second kicker was kept was to try and net something in trade. A low round pick was offered but declined because Hurney thought he could get something better. He would have been smarter to take the offer.

We lost Joe Webb who wasn't great but at least contributed. He was then replaced as third QB by Brad Kaaya, whom Hurney was reported to be very high on. That, thankfully, didn't last long.

Would you seriously try and tell me there are no reasons to question Hurney?

There are better (or worse) things to focus on than keeping two kickers. It is just an example of people focusing on  the wrong thing to support their hatred for Hurney.

As I have said before, I am not a Hurney lover, I know he was crap during his first stint as GM. But I am a fan of this team, and am wiling to give him the benefit of the doubt until he does something stupid this time. But the negativity that everyone has about this team, and this off-season is just sickening. Even something that really should be viewed as a positive, i.e. showing some respect for a long time contributor to this teams history, is skewed into something that is negative, and deserving of even more hatred. I just don't get it.

There's not a lot of "meat" to go by yet. What few meaningful things there have been under Hurney have been of either minimal or debatable impact.

As to people's feelings, I asked the question this way in another thread: If we brought Jimmy Clausen back as our starting quarterback, would your first reaction be optimism and a willingness to give him a chance or would you be prepping for disaster?

It's no different with Hurney. Optimism is great, but given the reality of the situation you can't really blame people that much if they're worried.

Not a good comparison. Nothing Clausen ever did was good. Hurney at least brought in some good players via the draft (and yes, I know about the Clausen deal.). He stated he learned from his mistakes. It is very different with Hurney. But some of you just want to be negative. So carry on.

It's not like every pass Jimmy Clausen ever threw was incomplete or intercepted.

Point is Clausen was bad at his job. So was Hurney.

And nobody just "wants to be negative". We'd all rather see our team win than lose. That's the reason why when people see what they think is a bad move, they complain.

Can't expect people to act like everything the team does is a great idea.

Again, Gettleman got hired by the same team he left and couldn’t get promoted in. No different from Hurney returning here.
