Hurney is definitely taking a running back.

What do you see as the top two or three positions in this draft as you get into the process at the combine?

MH: “I would say running back, throughout the draft. Offensive tackle, offensive line. Guard and tackle, if you’re talking about the deepness of the position. ... I would probably say running back [is strongest] right now."

Bare in mind successful teams use two running backs before the inevitable knock of McCaffrey/Gettleman.

Nobody is knocking CMC.

But the reality is if you have to spend an 8th overall pick on an RB and turn around and draft another one high the following season when you have Cam Newton at QB, somewhere you're missing out on value.

Say what you will about Hurndog but this far he’s made all the right-understandable moves during his second stint. Even the trading of KB opened up our offense. I’m going to support Hurndog 2.0 since 90% of the rest of Panther nation (understandably) hates him as our GM.

yeah, but he just stated to SI that it was too soon to decide on Stew, needing a RB who can run between tackles.  Seems wishy washy.

Hurney just freed up 10 mil in cap space.

Going rate for a top guard is 11-12 million...

Shepard makes 2 million...

Either way, he's putting us in a position to be able to afford Norwell and I'm OK with it.

So far cap management Hurney 2.0 gets an A grade from me. No idea how good he is at evaluating vet talent to fill out the roster though. Hopefully he vastly improved there.

This was inevitable. Thanks for the memories Jonathan.

So who replaces his production? Bare in mind with Stewart now gone, Cam Newton is our leading rusher by a whopping 300+ yards.

If we have to draft another RB, that's a problem.

I know he is on the wrong side of 30 but what about bringing in LaGarette Blount as a lower priced stop gap for a season while they find a long term answer? I know most people's first response will be Hell no but he has helped win a championship the last 2 seasons on a one year contract and still runs hard.

Not sure if he will still have the same chip on his shoulder after his recent success or if he fits what Norv wants to do but a Blount / CMC combo does not sound like a bad idea to me for a year while they work on something long term.
