Cut him now and you save $2.1M against the cap with $1.4M in dead money. 

Cut him after 6/1 and save $2.8M with $700K in dead money. 

I am no cap expert so can someone explain to me why they need to cut him now and the advantage of doing so? What am I missing here? There has to be a reason.

He can be cut now but designated a June 1 cut.  That will be the same thing as waiting until then to actually cut him and do the same thing with the cap/dead money.
