hes gotta be just as wtf about rehiring hurney as us fans

If anything, he's happy Hurn dog is here as his chances of a pay increase sky rocketed the minute Hurney was hired.  Dude is at the end of his career with a team that has a shot, I don't see him going anywhere, even NE.

New England is the only worry here. Tampa tried to lure CJ there also.

Pep wants a ring , and at this point that looks more likely in New England than Carolina this season.

I wonder if NE would give him the flexible practice schedule that Carolina did? At Peps age, I think that would be an important factor also.

I just don't see why he would leave here at this point in his career unless he really feels the Patriots provide the best chance for a ring and that is his only motivation at this point (which is fine).

As good as Pep was last year, it is worrisome that the idea of losing a 38 year old pass rusher who plays 50% of the snaps would cause this much concern. Just shows the need for depth at the position.

Didn't they basically do the same thing for Harrison?

As said Pats are basically guaranteed a SB appearance next year as they always are with maybe Pittsburgh in their way.  But I can't see leaving a team that was 11-5 and now with a more competent OC, and adding newer fresher pieces to the mix, a bad thing that you'd want to leave.  Never know what could come with a fresh offensive look.

If you're negotiating that final year of playing, and it's pretty obvious you want to stay with the home team, then having a few big name suitors sniffing around can put a couple of million more bucks in your pocket. Division rivals like the Bucs, managerial rivals like the Giants and lifetime rivals like the Pats are the perfect ones to make Hurney sweeten the pot a bit.

Would he go somewhere else for the right price? I can't say, but then again no one is tempting me with a few million dollars. If you look at it as a real, tangible thing rather than just some numbers, you can see why someone would chuck the playing legacy and take the big check to the bank.

Dropping Kurt Coleman for a new piece, potential WR splash (FA or Draft) Hall, Corn returning.  The team will be changing on both sides of the ball, for the better I'd think.  Not to mention the draft with upcoming potential of WR/RB/SS/DE replacements.
