panthers under gettleman: 4 playoff berths in 5 seasons

carolinahuddle: oh that’s great and all, but you know what i really miss? players having good reactions after being cut.

Gotta have priorities, right?

Imagine what it's gonna be like if a guy who's used to how the Steelers do things buys the team.

Pretty much.

Charles Johnson was released by Gettleman also and not only didn't complain, but came back to play for less money.

And Kurt Coleman act like a diva? Please...

Sorry, but this is silly.

I know you think Hurney is the worst GM in the history of football (and honestly, I'm not far behind you on that one) and that Dave Gettleman is the greatest football mind in the history of the NFL (easy now...) but you really do seem to lack some objectivity on these situations. No one is perfect, but if you could combine Gettleman's approach to football decisions with Hurney's approach to relating to people you'd have one hell of an NFL general manager. Hurney definitely has issues with football decisions and Gettleman definitely has issues with coming across as an asshole. Anyone without their head planted firmly up their own ass can acknowledge these things.

i predict that before that happens JR will hold the final lakehouse sleepover and invite the whole roster over so he can conduct the bed check to end all bed checks and that will be considered the highest honor for many huddlers.

Who's to say we make the playoffs with Benjamin and Funchess starting?

2017 wasn't all Gettleman. 2/4 winning seasons.

What we're talking about here likely played a big role - if not the primary role - in Gettleman's firing, whether we like it or not. So yeah, it matters. Big time.

Eh

its partial imo

i think he stood up to the big cat when he was told to retain players or else  coupled with favorite players whining to get a contract i think thats what did him in

he didnt do what he was told

Ahhh...such exaggeration. And you're someone I would have thought would be smarter than to say stuff like this. I'm disappointed.

Hurney isnt 'necessarily the worst GM in history, but the reality is he's lousy. His record shows that. Frankly, he's not really qualified to be a GM at all. He only has the job because Jerry Richardson was an idiot. No other owner in the league was dumb enough to hire him as even a consultant.

Gettleman the greatest?  No. Best GM the Panthers have had without question, but you'd have to have won at least one Super Bowl as a GM to start looking at that sort of thing. Gettleman has rings as an executive, but not as a GM. He still has a chance at that with the Giants of course. Marty Hurney is never going to have a GM job anywhere else, and I think you know that.

Gettleman was a better GM than Hurney, and pretty much any objective person who knows what they're talking about would say that. Saying this is not the same as saying Gettleman is perfect or Hurney never did anything right.  It's just reality.  As head coaches, Belichick has made incredibly stupid mistakes (even recently) and Marty Mornhinweg won games, but there's a rather substantial difference in overall quality between the two .

Can Marty Hurney handle things gently? Sure. So what? How gently do you think the Steelers and the Patriots are with their personnel decisions?

I don't really give a s--t about a guy being able to make everybody feel warm and fuzzy if he can't also build a winning team. Hurney has shown he's not good at roster building, so explain to me why I should care if he let's people down gently?

When that quality gets him an NFL executive job somewhere else, let me know.
