Big difference in cut players attitudes

Ah yes,  Gettleman was the faultless and blameless General Manager that did no wrong, and all the ills of the Panthers can be laid at the feet of Ron Rivera.

Yeah :)

Nah.

There are a million factors that affect the average football season.  Guys can be quite good at their jobs and yet still have things not go their way (ask Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh about that if you don't believe me).

As mentioned, neither is perfect nor completely useless, except Smitty of course.  Obviously he can do no wrong :eyeroll:

Prove a negative? Sure.

I actually can point to numerous situations (Kevin Greene, Lance Briggs, Kam Chancellor, Joey Bosa, even Tshimanga Biakabutuka) where extremely contentious situations arose where it looks like all bridges were burned but afterward everything was fined and nobody else cited those incidents as reasons not to go to a particular team.

All the factors mentioned in the prior post are real, grown up reasons why guys make free agent decisions.  So unless you believe a guy is gonna go to his wife and say "Honey, I know the money's good here, the area's nice, the schools are great and we'll be paying significantly lower taxes, but I just can't sign here because the GM was nasty to this guy he cut before" then I'm afraid your idea doesn't hold up.

Generally,  multiple teams and multiple GMs,  with great cities and schools,  churches, clubs and whatever else the hell that is a positive selling point is in the mix,  so excuse me for telling you that you're basically full of it.  Players have all kinds of options, positives and negatives for usually the several options that they can chose from.  Grown men take everything into account,  and for you to suggest otherwise is just a way to support your dumb argument that they don't take player treatment into account. But, you do you. You obviously  have a problem admitting  what should be obvious because of your ongoing love affair with Dave Gettleman.

I'm not so sure it's "obvious" that how a GM released a prior player would be some huge factor after much more important things.

But hey, it's your theory, even though you refuse to state for the record that it will affect the Giants.

You prove that it won't affect the Giants.  You know damned well that unless a player comes right out and say it,  which is highly unlikely, even in this day and time, then we'll never be privy to their mindset or discussions with their family, friends and agents.  So cut the poo!

So you've gone from asking me to prove a negative to now proving a negative won't happen in the future...

I'm gonna need to upgrade my Magic 8 Ball for this.

Dude, you made an argument you know you can't back up. It's that simple. Calm down before you blow a fuse.

I'll go back to what I said before.

Gettleman wasn't perfect, and not every move Hurney made was wrong.  But big picture: Hurney only had three winning seasons out of eleven.  Gettleman presided over the most successful period in Panthers history.

Correlation does not imply causation.

No,  I made an argument that should pretty much be common sense. You're more interested in trying to disprove it by telling me to prove it by using the team of your beloved favorite GM no less when you know that it's almost impossible to prove.  You disprove it since you're suggesting that "grown men" don't take what are essentially workplace conditions into account.

Calling how someone gets released a "workplace condition" is a pretty big stretch, unless you believe guys spend part of every day thinking about how it's going to go down when they get released.

If a guy who's supposed to be concentrating on practice is instead sitting there worrying that the GM might say something mean to him when he gets let go, that's probably not a guy I want on my team.

And yes, it's pretty clear you're getting emotional.

Gettleman's unprofessional and/or irritating manner extended well beyond firing people via the media, and that's ultimately the main reason his ass was fired.  Fired!  So, yeah,  workplace conditions...If he dealt with people in a better way,  he's likely still be here. But,  alas, he is now your new team's problem.

Yeah,  I'm emotionally laughing at your feeble attempt to control the argument not only by moving the goalposts here and there,  and taking what should be a simple understanding and cloudy it up by continually entering points that haven't even been made.  And now,  you have the audacity to try and question my emotional state to circumvent the fact that you haven't disproved/proved a damn thing.

Riiiiight.

Out of curiosity, just how much contact do you think the average player usually has with the GM?

You're painting Gettleman like a boogeyman who was going around every day saying mean things to everyone he could. That, plus the ludicrous statement that Rivera is some super coach who won in spite of being hamstrung by his GM is putting you into some pretty ridiculous spin territory.

And no, I don't have a "new team". The fact that you're saying silly things like that pretty much tells me not only that you've lost the debate, but just how deep into your emotions this has gotten.

Seriously dude, chill.

I've lost the debate? Whatever Scot,  most people in this thread know that you're full of poo as it pertains to this debate.  Stop lying to yourself.  You're delusional if you think that any player,  coach,  owner or GM,  can't develop a reputation that will adversely affect free agent signings.  Everyone knows it.  I don't even necessarily think that Gettleman has cemented his reputation,  but if he keeps doing business in New York,  the way that he did here,  players are going to see it as negative.  Plain and simple!  Will it affect every player? No.  Will it affect some?  Yes. But provided that Gettleman isn't a fool or an egomaniac,  he hopefully learned something from his time here.  He obviously got better actually firing people as time went on...maybe...but perhaps being overly contentious with Olsen or TD was the last straw.  Who knows?  What I will guarantee is that if he keeps handling players in New York the way that he handled them here,  he will be fired yet again.

So,  basically,  you can keep debating with yourself. I say what I mean and mean what I say, and I'm not going to let you put thoughts in my head or words in my mouth.

Take your L and go argue with Goobs or someone else.

    • With a night to sleep on it I'm now firmly of the opinion that we keep letting Bryce improve the rest of the season and enter next years camp with 2 new additions to the QB room. One being a new veteran and the other being another rookie QB we can bring along slowly. If Bryce's ceiling is game manager so be it. In that instance it will be majorly beneficial to the team as a whole to have another QB waiting in the wings and use the other as trade bait. But we've got to be smart about this and think ahead. I cannot stress enough that we cannot again sit on our hands with the most important position. Meanwhile we've also been continuing to build up the rest of the roster in the meantime. Then maybe we will be ready to compete for the division and a playoff spot. That is the best path forward for this franchise given where we are and the mistakes we've made that should serve as a learning tool of what not to do.
