*SPECULATION* Rapoport: Panthers Among Potential Suitors For Trading For 16 Million Dollar Scatback Jarvis Landry

Scatback? LOL Landry would instantly be the best WR on our roster. I don't like the 16 mil price tag but we would negociate a deal before trading. Landry led the league in catches this year with Cutler throwing him the ball...

And he had an anemic YPC average for any average wide receiver,  much less an elite one.  We're talking about roughly 5 yards less than the average receiver, so leading the league in catches isn't that great of a thing when you put it into context.

"Because the Dolphins used the non-exclusive tag, Landry could still negotiate with other teams. Should he sign elsewhere, that team would then owe the Dolphins a pair of first-round draft picks."

Is this not the case anymore? If the price is TWO first round picks AND picking up that contract, who in the world is going to trade for him?

If he doesn't sign the tender but signs an offer sheet from another team and the Dolphins don't match, then they get 2 firsts. That's not a trade and he can't be traded if he doesn't sign the franchise tender.

A trade would be set up by the Dolphins, Landry and a team all agreeing to terms on it beforehand then Landry would sign the tender and he's under contract with the Dolphins and they can trade him for agreed upon compensation which can be anything.

Wow, Landry is a decent WR who gets a ton of volume, but he's not the one addition we need to win a SB. Dolphins have been 6-10, 6-10, 8-8 and 10-6 with him.

Funny thing is that in Landry's rookie year, Wallace was their leading receiver and they were 11th in scoring. In Landry's two high volume (160+) target years, they were 27th and 28th in scoring. In his second lowest target season, they were 17th. I don't think it is a coincidence that the more they threw to Landry, the lower the scoring. For stats guys, yards per target is important because it shows the efficiency of every play for Landry. Last year was the Dolphins worst scoring year with Landry (their leading WR) and not coincidentally, he barely was over 6 yards per target. In their best scoring season, Wallace was their leading WR and he had 7.5 yards per target or 20% more than Landry in 2017

Landry Targets - Dolphins Scoring Rank

112 - 11th

131 - 17th

161 - 28th

166 - 27th

Feel free to ignore the data, but from an efficiency stand point, Landry isn't that good, which is why KB's 1st down percentage per catch was way better even though his biggest supporter on this board just ignore my point.

Anyway, suffice it to say that if we did trade for him, we would be fuging ourselves both in cap space (losing Williams or Funchess or both) and draft capital (likely cost our 1st).

that “one player away” mentality can destroy a good team if it’s not kept in check

Terrified of him getting a legit WR? Word

Landry is not a legit WR at all. Hurney NEVER got a legit WR here in his entire time as GM. Not a single one. 10 years and not a single legit WR. The worry is the dumbass overpaying for sh*tty WRs.

I'm not going to say that he isn't a legit slot receiver because he has good hands, is tough,  and runs decent routes,  but I  would like someone with more speed and upside (like,  for instance,  Curtis Samuel). There are certainly much better values to be had.  16 mil per year for Landry is simply absurd.

This whole thread is a

Top WR out there + Teams who need WR = might be a match.. Turned into a "OMG we might do this"!!! attack Hurney and the player.. Because the OP doesn't like either..

When in reality we don't have the funds or picks to even consider this.. Without killing our roster for years.. And contrary  2 opinion Hurney history shows he doesn't spend on outside FA.. Lucas, Stephen Davis and Whale were the highest priced FA he went after...

Not to mention we needed safety last year but trotted out the Geriatric Duo all year. But Hurn dogs in charge so who knows

I agree we don't have the pics. Nor would I cough that up. Don't put that past Hurney though. But in all likelihood, yeah rapapoop and the nfl network need fodder to make people read and watch. i would like landry here, and could justify the price, just not the two first rounders. Still hoping we end up with Mike Wallace. I'd be open to Martavius b/c he may take a hometown discount and the asking price wouldn't be that high.

And for all these Madden scouts.. This is really not that hard..

Amazing Hands +  separation ability + commitment to route running prowess + and dangerous in space + toughness and dog like  attitude = a WR who can line up anywhere with anybody and produce..

Plain and simple Landry reminds me of Smitty.. Attitude, hands, great route running and quickness..

But I wouldn't give up picks and 16mil for him the price is to high for a player that doesn't fix all your problems .

His YPC alone,  should be a red flag and aren't Smitty-esque in the slightest.

Many of us told you that Landry was a pipe dream from the get-go. I also told you that Moncrief would be my main target (assuming that Watkins is also out of reach).  Glad to see you've seen the light.  ;)
