Panthers owner Jerry Richardson might get his bidding war after all

The next Panthers owner must be a very very successful businessman, serious minded, no bullshit attitude, no gimmicks, no frigg'n side shows or distractions allowed, intolerant of stupidity and immaturity among the players and coaches, that will mind the business and leave football decisions to the GM and Coaches, and that has a passion for football and an obsession with being the best.

The team having a potential value of 2.8 billion means that whoever the majority owner is has to be able to write a check for 840 million without blinking.

Any potential "bidding war" could send that number even higher. Having a guy who's worth 11 billion involved makes that more likely.

Basically, Jordan has about as much of a shot as Diddy does. But since he's not interested anyway, doesn't matter.

Every NFL sale or sports team sale will be a bidding war from now until a very long time from now.

It's not even a bubble.

In a world where the hyper-rich have runaway fortunes and will only be moving further away from the rest of us, any must-have status symbol is not just a status symbol but an excellent investment that will rapidly appreciate.

People who have ever discussed the likes of Bruton Smith are...not really grasping the nature of the world they live in. You may just need to get out more. It is not 1978 at the moment.

And people who completely dismiss the likes of MJ are not grasping the full nature of small-share owners. The right minority owner - a glamorous celebrity - is in himself a status symbol for the actual majority owner of the team, who will be someone like Tepper at a total price over $3bn when all is said and done.

A savvy celebrity minority owner knows full well that as much as he is buying a share of the team, he is also selling a share of himself.

Celebrity....eeeeehh a bunch of celebrities.  But as long as they keep their mouth shut(don't talk about what you don't know)  and stay out football operations who cares

A celebrity minority owner won't have a chance to interfere from an operational perspective. They'll be a mascot - and under no delusions in that regard.

I'm just making the point that people who blow $3bn on a status symbol - i.e. actual owner types -  might also be eager to have a mascot to show off to their friends.

MJ is worth almost 1.7b dollars now, 700m of that is the Hornets. Considering his cash flow from Nike and his relationship with them, I wouldn't be surprised if he could come up with the money if he wanted too.

He's not going to part with 7/10 of his after Hornets worth to buy the Panthers
