panthers leaning towards franchise tagging K Graham Gano

So tagging Josh Norman was a waste of money, and letting him go was a smart move, right guys? Even without any plans to fill his void, and with others at his position leaving Carolina already. Though not tagging Andrew Norwell, a position the Panthers are arguably stacked at, at a premium of top 5 left tackle money, that's when everyone loses their poo?

I'd also like to mention that quality cornerbacks are much harder to find than guards, and also take more time to develop.

Also, one of these teams was a Super Bowl team, and the other didn't win a playoff game.

His contract isn't nearly as bad at this point. And isn't an option, he just needs a slightly reduced role

We'll that's because he was extended. He will also along with Kalil hold dead weight when retired next year.

This is EXACTLY the kind of poo Hurney does when he is running teams. Instead of keeping the guy on his rookie deal he keeps the veteran with a year left on his contract.

Now he wants to give this veteran with consistency issues a top 5 salary for the next year?

Why did we think Hurney was going to be any better at managing the cap?

Didn't Gettleman pay Gano top 5 kicker money when he signed him before? I remember it being somewhat contentious at the time, but most thought he was worth it because of his ability to always kick a touchback.

I can't recall if it was top 5 kicking money but I agree I've never been a fan of Gano, this year is the outlier in his normal performance

I never was either, though I don't know about tagging Norwell. Norwell is well worth tagging, and trying to get a long term contract worked out of course, but looking at the cap room it might mean not finding a receiver in free agency. I personally think the Panthers need a proven deep threat to make the best of Norv's system. I'm very wary about going into the draft needing that player.

I also have hopes that Moton could do well at guard if Norwell leaves. I was reading his draft profiles, and professional takes on him, and it seems like a lot of them projected him to play guard in the NFL.

What pissed me off most about last season with Gano was we kept him and then Rivera was too much of a pussy to even trot his ass out to try for any 50 yarders. Dude might have the strongest leg in the NFL and he only attempted 1 kick over 50 all regular season (which he missed).

And then Gano went out on the field and kicked one from that length just to show he could have done it.

Wouldn't try long kicks with a guy, and now we might be franchising him?

Yeah...
