This doesn't make it ok to go back to shitty hurney

Doesn’t make it ok to sit around and complain about it either. Hurney is Hurney and makes the most sense for the team for the short term. Let a new owner come in and analyze and make his own decisions. If I were a new owner I’d want somewhere here who already knows the personnel and the staff. Makes for an easier transition. Hurney is just basically auditioning. If he’s good then it’s great for all of us and if he’s not then he’ll be gone.

Yes and in this case, golden parachutes that also get to decide the future of contracts, the draft and free agency

..and that’s the difference, in my business, like most with the GP, paid but no longer active in decision making

Let’s see how well he does at cutting players he drafted

I know it sucks. I'm more upset with JR for putting us in this position with the timing of the Gman firing the NDC BS selling the team.

(Hell I remember when they fired Hurney like it was yesterday, because I was with my wife getting an ultrasound on our 2nd child, and I read it on my Phone “Panthers Fire GM Marty Hurney” & I let out a woo!!! and did a fist pump, the Dr said something like “ I know it’s very exciting isn’t it” I replied umm oh yeah this is cool too but my football team just fired there GM.)

Now lo and behold 5yr later that F*cker is back

*SMH

Dave Gettleman traded up every year. He did it so much the Panthers had the fewest drafted players during his tenure. He also traded a fourth round pick for a punter that played an entire half season.

Hurney traded two firsts and a second to select the likes of Jeff Otah, Everette Brown (in the second round), and Armanti Edwards (in the third round) in three consecutive years...

Gettleman traded a 4th two years into the future for a Punter.

One of these things is not like the other... One doesn't cripple the franchise's ability to draft top talent in future drafts.

You know what was really amazing if you stop and think about it? How we were in such a hole with our cap situation and Gettleman still managed to lock up Luke AND Cam on long term deals. People ignore the fact that Hurney put us in a position financially in which it was questionable that we'd be able to retain a generational talent at LB, let alone a franchise QB in the same timeframe. But he didn't give us a franchise LT and he was mean so he was a poo GM... Get the hell out of here with that nonsense.

Was Gettleman perfect? God no, he wasn't. But he wasn't a little bitch boy cuck who did Jerry's bidding like Hurney, and because Gettleman actually had balls stored somewhere in his FUPA, we managed to make the playoffs in 4 of his 5 years as a GM - as well as maintain a healthy cap number for Hurney's dumbass to fug up moving forward.

You can really tell the difference between fans who jumped on the bandwagon when we got Cam and when we started playing well compared to the ones who actually remember Hurney's dumbassery. Everyone who remember's Hurney remembers how bleak things looked before he was fired.

The more I think about this the more pissed off I get.

See this is the thing. You see it as a contest of who was worse, I see it as both of them fuging up. However, you are missing the larger point that Gettleman traded up often, and quite often resulting in mediocre players.

You should go look at the cap situation again. After 2013 the Panthers had plenty of cap room. Hell Gettleman tagged Greg Hardy for 15 million and still signed an entirely new secondary and wide receiving corps.

Fair enough, but I'd rather take a level 5 fug up than a level 10 fug up.

And I'd rather have mediocre players than utter garbage players who are out of the league within their contract length.

Next year we are going to be in deep trouble with a mass exodus of old players and a void of youth. Basically Hurney is going to erase what Dave did in one and a half years.

FYI this is why he wanted to cut some vets last year and got fired for it.

Why would that be on Hurney? Dave traded away draft picks so often that he made the Panthers have the fewest selected players during his time in Carolina. This with his penchant for signing older veterans is why the team is about to go through an "exodus" of older players.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
