I'm not saying that it was right or wrong,  but it's certainly not a franchise breaking decision.  Hurney has a rare---err, unique opportunity.  I am intrigued and wish him well.  His situation is not an easy one,  and it is pressure-filled.  Knowing that your job could be gone with the coming of new management is kinda tough. 

I agree it isn't an enviable position to be in really. And my contention is that if we can attract the talent we did for the GM job with all this uncertainty imagine who we can attract once a new owner is in place. This is an interim position unless Hurney does a great job.

If I were the new owner of the Panthers, having spent a couple of billion dollars for the privilege, I'd take some time to sit down with Marty Hurney and get his take on the state of the franchise and where we needed to go in the future.

After that, I'd thank Marty for his input and fire him on the spot.  Then I'd have my executive assistant line up interviews for his replacement, fully knowing what NOT to look for in my next GM.
