  1. 1. Is it possible?

    • No, he'll be off the board

    • Possible, but not necessarily our primary need right now

    • Possible, and a good pick because we need someone to push Cam (and maybe start in 2019 or late 2018)

I need some more info on this. That's a very bold statement. I feel like these work hand in hand. A good WR makes a QB's jobs easier (See Foles) and a good QB makes a WR's job easier (See every patriot WR and Jimmy G. with 49ers).

We are in a league that is full of bubble screens, quick hits, and drags. Not sure how that makes it more difficult on the WR's.

WR getting harder: Corners are better than ever, and the ball is getting distributed more equitably. This latter is not so much a "harder" factor, but it limits the numbers for any given WR, which makes the utility of a conversion less than ever before. If you turn a guy into a WR now, he's just one of a pack.

QB getting easier: Increasing number of progressive coaches committed to building around a QB's skillset rather than forcing him into their favored archetype, plus strategies like what McVay is doing with Goff.

Lamar Jackson's a beast and should be one of the first QBs off the board, but sadly will get the Cam treatment from the NFL and claim him to be something he isn't.

That being said, we don't need a new QB nor a backup that early. Another team could use him way better than we would anyways.

I don't even know if I would say that WR is even getting that much harder as much as I would make the statement that, historically, those QB to WR conversions that happen at the NFL level don't seem to be successful very often. If some of these guys make that transition in college and actually get the time to get some experience with learning that new position, they can succeed. Going from being a starting QB in college football to an NFL WR takes a lot more than just being a great athlete. Not to mention, what NFL team has the roster space to keep a project player around on anything other than the practice squad for more than a couple of years?

All very true. Would be a true waste of a good QB.

I've been thinking about this lately. I've never really been a draftnik (more focused on recruiting, for obvious reasons), but my gut tells me this is quite doable.

Kaeperneck's a FA. It's destiny. Stop fuging posting.
