jarvis landry is an overglorified scatback trying to play slot receiver and inflating his stats with excessive targets while giving poor output in the yards per target range alongside being a meaningful impact player on a consistent basis.

his third down conversion rate nearly makes the lottery a better gamble.

So?

He and A Rob are the two prizes of the WR FA class, no? Someone was going to greatly overpay.

I personally didn't see it that way. Robinson, Watkins, Lee, Moncrief would all be above Landry to me. And we have no idea what other teams would've done with Landry. Apparently the Dolphins felt they would overpay. That doesn't mean that the other teams would have, just that the Dolphins didn't want to lose him badly enough that they tagged him.

i'm not denying he was definitely a sought after FA commodity.

i'm just laughing at how overrated he is. dolphins would actually be so much better without landry being a focal point all the time.

giving 16 million dollars to him makes it even more hilarious, even if you respect his ability in the slot (which i definitely don't.)

Even if he's the best slot receiver in the NFL he's not worth 16 million.

The Dolphins knew what other teams were going to do. And they also knew what losing Landry meant to their WRs.

jarvis landry being bad at football is apparently the worst post?

at the very least bring up my russell shepard takes. those are far worse lol.

you found some statistics online a few weeks ago and it made you feel clever, as if you discovered a hidden kernel of knowledge, countermand to the status quo. Taking it and going against the grain makes you feel clever.

But at the end of the day calling Jarvis Landry a bad football player is still a laughably dumb thing to say, and its hard to blame them for feeling pressured to keep an elite player and the face of their franchise from going to new England. Again.

What makes you say this? How often are stupid teams fooled into overpaying players? Quite often, no? And the Dolphins haven’t exactly been very smart recently... They THINK they know what losing Landry would mean for them. Doesn’t mean they are right.

And I’m not trying to say I’m right about him, I really don’t know. He very well may have demanded $15M/yr on the open market and the Dolphins may end up paying him $13-14M/yr. Or maybe he would’ve only got $10M/yr on the open market. My point is really just that we don’t know and the Dolphins don’t know for sure either—they’re betting on it being the former.

Landry is not bad and you comparing him to Fozzy really is unbelievably stupid. I think they’re overpaying him but very good players are overpaid all the time. Doesn’t mean they’re bad...

Your problem is it's been so long since we had a WR that avg. 1000 yard 90rec 6td seasons ... That you don't have a clue of what that type player looks like or actual commands on the open market...

Apparently calling someone whose average yards per reception is poor when compared to other elite WRs is dumb. 2016 was Landry's best performance when he averaged 12.1 y/r, yet this was still 69th in the NFL. Despite pulling in 112 receptions off the 4th most targets, Landry finished 17th in receiving yards, failing to eclipse 1,000 yards for the first time since his rookie season (987yds in 2017). He also finished 22nd in yards per game averaging 61.7.

Also, you understand Landry's getting paid more than AJ Green and Julio Jones.
