One decent off season would ease a lot of minds. Hurney wasn't horrible in some of the things he did, but dishing out ridiculous contracts that crippled the franchise cap was something that has left a horrible stink on his legacy as a GM. It honestly feels like Gettleman is setting Hurney up to do something stupid. Not saying he is, but it feels like it.

GMs trolling other GMs is part of the game.

What you hope for is to have one who's doing the trolling rather than one who's being trolled.

The Giants would be crazy to make Norwell the highest paid guard in the NFL while having quite possibly the worst OT situation in the NFL.

They've played former 1st round pick Ereck Flowers out of position for pretty much his entire career. He's a huge mauler of an OL, not a nimble footed LT. He needs to be playing RT or OG. They call him a bust and he very well may he, but they've stubbornly been trying to force a round peg into a square hole with him.

Love Norwell, and prefer to sign him over Star if we have to choose, but not if he's getting the anticipated money that's being tossed around.

I'd rather have Moton there at LG or draft someone like Billy Miller or Brian Allen. Allen, out of Mich St is another versatile G/C that can pair with Moton to lock up the left side of the line. Want Moton at LT in 2019 after we boot Kalil? Slide Allen to G. Want Moton at LG, Miller would be a great C after the better Kalil retires in 2019.

We've got options, and snagging a 3rd round comp pick in '19 after Norwell is gone makes me happy. We need to add to our mediocre salary cap space and use it this year to add weapons at WR and secondary.

The Charlotte Observer's Joe Person doesn't expect the Panthers to use the franchise tag on free agent LG Andrew Norwell.

Carolina has a ton of money tied up in its offensive line with LT Matt Kalil, C Ryan Kalil, and RG Trai Turner. Tagging Norwell would leave the Panthers on the hook for a guaranteed $14.3 million-ish, money they'd likely prefer to use elsewhere. Norwell, 26, is one of the top overall free agents available.

That and three atrocious drafts to finish out his tenure. Had he drafted better, the awful contracts wouldn't have crippled us so badly.

He handed out contracts as directed by an owner that was on a mission to prove he was committed to winning after going cheap in preparation for a lockout he not only knew was coming, but orchestrated. How soon we forget. It’s just easier to bash Hurney, who is a man with many faults, but we could do worse.

Facts.. Blame Hurney for being a yes man.  But all GM's are with over barring owners.. That's why Belicheck is mad now because Craft force the Garrapalo trade..

Andrew Norwell

Arguably the most sought-after offensive line prospect in recent free agent memory, if Norwell were to leave Carolina, he’d bring with him an All-Pro caliber skillset and the league’s best grade among left guards at 88.8 overall. Not a one-trick pony, Norwell finished the 2017 season with the league’s top pass-blocking grade and the eighth-ranked run-blocking grade among all qualified guards. His career-high in overall grade, combined with his skillset across the board, would instantly improve any offensive line in the league, thus making him nearly every team’s dream splash signing this offseason.

the thing about Norwell that is known that isn't known about our backups, draft picks is Norwell doesnt miss time often.

Even when he had a high ankle sprain or whatever he came back ASAP. Never see him slack off between the whistle.

What sucks is he will probably get replaced by a 10 year vet who will play 4 games and get owned with NFC defenses.

Its bittersweet because we probably took the talent, and heart of Norwell, Tyler Larson, D Williams, Trai Turner for granted this season.

They held up the middle pretty well all year, Our RBs and O line weren't ever on the same page, and the eagles, mainly Fletcher Cox completely mauled them, most of our pressure and big time sacks came from Mr Money Matt on the blind side. But its a hard job as a left tackle as a Carolina panther.. you have division teams being very aggressive 6 games a year trying to take Cams head off. You have Cam himself who edge defensive players play to a higher level because they take more pride in tackling Cam Newton than say Matt Ryan. You get more people talking about you when you're able to sack cam newton, networks, media, GMs. Hes a giant target in the NFL so the left tackle better be ready for war every single snap.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports the Giants are expected to "make a concerted effort" to sign impending free agent OG Andrew Norwell.

The dots connect easily here. New York is desperate for offensive-line help, and Norwell was signed as an UDFA in Carolina by new Giants GM Dave Gettleman. 26-year-old Norwell figures to be one of the hottest names on the market in two weeks and could reset the guard market after the Browns made Kevin Zeitler the league's highest-paid guard as a free agent last offseason. Norwell isn't expected to re-sign in Carolina with so much money tied up in the Panthers' line
